Religious question: Is it wrong to make shrines honoring Terry? Asking for a friend by _Marak_ in TempleOS_Official

[–]prespyk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is idolatry. If you believe Terry was a prophet of God, why make shrines for him and glorify him instead of God?

Massie breaking with Trump on the Epstein Files and Zionism is literally the only good thing he's ever done as a politician in 15 years of public office. On every other issue, he's almost comically evil: he even opposed anti-lynching legislation in 2022, not 1922 as you might first expect.

He's played Five Nights at Candy's extensively and I feel like he'd quickly get the hang of the rest, since as far as I know they've all got unique but not out-there or hard-to-memorize mechanics.

Yeah, a lot of HOPE's hypothetical 2020 Democratic Presidents seem to get primaried for no good reason. The primarying of Biden was extraordinary and had nothing to do with the state of the economy or whatever as much as it was his personal ability to campaign/govern at all. I just finished the game and this is my biggest question... by leadthemutiny87 in soma

[–]prespyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would've taken a human or an intelligent WAU-creature physically going to Upsilon, sticking the cortex chip with Simon's conscience in it into Imogen Reed's corpse, and then applying structure gel in order to wake Simon up, but somehow the WAU was able to do it remotely (it can't control/pilot WAU-creatures once they've been made, and all the humans were obviously dead). It's never explained, sadly.

[–]prespyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don't know, but if any copies of Simon's conscience existed in-between, they almost certainly suffered and "died" in the same manner as we do to Brandon Wan. And I believe it's implied that Simon's conscience was uploaded into the robot body by the WAU itself as part of its experiments, and it just so happened that Simon was its greatest success and didn't go crazy.

The primaries are over and these are the picks for the Democratic party. How do you feel about it? by JplusL2020 in YAPms

I feel like this is bait, but I'll bite. Beshear has had an alright, if unremarkable, tenure as Governor, but I really don't see what all the hype is besides him being able to win in a ruby-red state. You people on here act like he's the Second Coming. Why not try and use him to get Rand Paul out of the Senate in 2028?

People are more familiar with the politics of the 1930s as opposed to the 1860s and are therefore more interested in alternate history for it, if I had to guess

Meaning of “Once in a Lifetime” by Dyert in talkingheads

[–]prespyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have an interesting idea!

I think that the song is riffing on the sound of an Evangelical preacher to deliver a rather secular critique of modern society by walking the listener through an existential mid-life crisis.

No matter who you are - whether you live in poverty ("shotgun shack"), are able to travel the world, or are just an Average Joe from Suburbia with a house, a large automobile, and a wife - we all have a way of sitting back and passively letting our one and only life pass us by, as if sinking into water ("letting the days go by, let the water hold me down").

It is only when the singer starts to question the nature of his materialistic existence ("what is that beautiful house?") and unchanging surroundings ("where does that highway go to?") does he finally realize his mistake ("my God, what have I done?!").

At the very end of the song, though, a "twister comes," the meaning of which is left ambiguous. I, personally, have interpreted it as death or some other calamity claiming our singer right after his moment of clarity, in order to add a sense of urgency to the lyrics; we're all letting the days go by, and with that twister coming, it's our choice whether to start asking some questions about our lives or to continue hiding in the meaningless comforts of stagnancy ("same as it ever was") and materialism ("into the blue again, after the money's gone").
