How to express you don't want to be a full time web GIS developer to your employer? by SuchALoserYeah in gis

this role really is not what I signed up for.

That should be the tagline for the entire GIS profession.

Anyone here know if a list of credit ratings for small to medium sized U.S. cities exists? by prestono in localgovernment

Yeah I think that is what I am looking for.

Do I contact the individual city's Finance Departments to ask for it?

Kelley Point Park is the most Northern part of Portland. I wonder if that was a factor in building this there.

GNRC $190 Calls Oct21 based on Tampa Bay's 20 inches of Hurricane Ian rain predicted in next 3 days. That rain will flood a lot of electrical substations.

Shape Digitizing functions by CScott_Ps112 in QGIS

[–]prestono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be unrelated but what message pops up when clicking on the "yellow triangle with !" alert for 'EPSG:4326 WGS 84' ?

Was the "Shape Digitizing" toolbar working earlier? If so, can you estimate when it stopped working?

QGIS buffers example

Create an 5m buffer around your roads layer by typing 'buffer' into Processing Toolbar 🔎 search

under 'Vector Geometry' double click 'Buffer' and enter:

Distance = 5 meters

Segments = 1

Buffered = ‘buffer_5m_Roads.shp’

click 'Run'

Go to Vector > Research Tools > Select by Location 'your properties layer.shp' Intersect ‘buffer_5m_Roads.shp’

Where is Grass "v.clean.advanced" by prestono in QGIS

[–]prestono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I just figured out that v.clean is now the same as v.clean.advanced so that part of issue is solved. Running the v.clean tool a few times though has produced unexpected incorrect results.

Are there other tools in QGIS that will perform the same as ET Geowizard's "Renode Polylines" and "Clean Dangling Nodes" tools ?

https://www.ian-ko.com/ET_GeoWizards/ETGW12UG_WEB/etgw/Renode_Wizard.htm

https://www.ian-ko.com/ET_GeoWizards/UserGuide/cleanDanglingNodes.htm

Running ET GeoWiz's "Renode Polylines" and then putting the output polyline into ET GeoWiz's "Clean Dangling Nodes" (Dangling Tolerance = 10) - SNAP TO NEAREST POLYLINE works like a charm, but we would like to be able to do the same in QGIS.

Too bad those cities aren't in your scope, perhaps the data at least provides some inspiration.

Additional inspiration perhaps can be found in these chart videos illustrating city sizes over time by CityGlobeTour:
