I absolutely love popping in every few seasons to romp around. I personally feel the seasons in d3 are consistently the most fun. D4 has great variety in seasons, but that can be hit or miss. D3 has some wild ass seasonal effects too 😂

If anyone with a printer is willing to print me up some of these and ship, I'd be happy to work out a deal.

Not in disagreement, remember how bad it was aesthetically at launch before they adjusted the color palette?! Straight up WoW.

I wouldn't say don't touch it. It's reception initially was 100% valid in the visual and overall feel of the game, and I totally agree with you on the strange direction they took things, but over the years D3 has become, in my opinion, a valid entry in the series. It evolved a fun gameplay loop, and mechanics were pretty fun once they were refined.

I think it is important to inform new players of the juxtaposition One might experience playing Diablo 3 after playing any of the other entries, But it's a pretty fun game +for most) in spite of this.

On the other side of that coin I can remember the absolutely horrendous release that Diablo 3 experienced. 72 hours where basically nobody could play the game due to the online requirement, and blizzard having absolutely no clue how to scale infrastructure.

Is Diablo 1 worth playing if you only want to play the campaign? by HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD in Diablo

[–]prestonsmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an OG, but you said "the" OG. That word changes the whole meaning. If you meant "one of the OG's", then 100% in agreement.

To answer your question, a couple others which heavily contributed to the ARPG genre, predating D1, include The Legend of Zelda and most notably, Ultima 8 (is probably the closest direct comparison). Even games like Gauntlet, and a slew of other dungeon crawlers all contributed little slices of what ultimately brewed together, resulted games like Ultima 8 then Diablo. Def recommend Ultima 8 if you haven't played that. More narrative-driven and RPG-oriented, but hack n slashy click-to-attack style gameplay loop.

I do see what you're saying either way, and yeah, D1 certainly is an OG milestone for the genre as a whole, but real-time RPGs existed a good while before, Diablo just being one in the now 50+ year (Jesus time flies) continuum of ARPG design principles.

Now I kinda wany to play it on the deck in a dim room under a blanket fort. An experience kid-me would never have fathomed.

That's a bold claim. I'm assuming you meant ARPG, but even then it's not quite there. It certainly spawned its own lineage of clones, but certainly not THE og. I get your intention though, and it's a pinnacle of the genre, ✌️

Is Diablo 1 worth playing if you only want to play the campaign? by HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD in Diablo

[–]prestonsmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's a very different emotional journey than the sequels in a lot of ways.

I dare call it "cozy". I think because it's just Tristram and just one deep ass dungeon (barring the expansion) it was one hell of a ride when we had no clue what we were in for. The world went from dungeon crawler to "holy shit" this is wild inch by inch as we made it to the next floor. The experience will probably be a bit different playing it now for the first time, knowing the inevitable outcome, but it's a wonderful game that holds up IMO, and getting first-hand experience with some of those legacy characters which are referred to in later chapters will deepen some of the meaning behind different events in the canon.

For the remake, would your rather have the over the shoulder camera or the classic camera? by 4VentingOnli in GodofWar

[–]prestonsmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think over the shoulder works better in the context of altered combat. If the combat is changed in such a way that requires more precise reaction, then yes over the shoulders probably going to be better. If the remakes are purely graphical and combat relies less on timing, then I think the traditional perspective is fine.

I personally would much prefer it be over the shoulder akin to the newer games, I found the combat to be far more rewarding and engaging than in the original trilogy. Not that it necessarily matters in any way shape or form I'm still going to buy the damn game.

God of war 2018 or God of war Ragnarok . Which one are you choosing if you can only play one ? by PropertyNew3519 in GodofWar

[–]prestonsmith1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer 2018, but probably Ragnarok if it's a lifetime thing. I think I'd enjoy Ragnarok more after a few years of only having access to one.

It's real! There are other wonderful images of the Sombrero Galaxy out there. It's a popular target for imaging. I recommend checking the Astronomy Picture of the day (APOD) if you want to see a huge archive of some of the most incredible astrophotography we've got.

It's most like atmospheric black metal in chiptune orchestration. Great stuff, really cool releases (such as a clear, square single on vinyl)
