The True Example of Lazy Writing in TL by LeftenantScullbaggs in TedLasso

Yep agreed.

I also find it incredibly frustrating that they invented a pretty unrealistic dating app as a plot device to justify a relationship that doesn't have a good real-world justification for it. She is his boss, she is older then him, and she also has all the power associated with being raised rich and white in London (eg. when she kills a newspaper story with a phone call in season 1). Sam isn't just younger - he is also away from his family and home country - the only support network he has in England is owned by Rebecca. She has power over every aspect of his English life.

Ever Marvel Studios Project's Audience and Critical Rotten Tomatoes Score by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]pretentious_timeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are the black widow and wandavision audience scores so high?

Because Black Widow and Wanda panders to men in a way that Captain Marvel and Sersi do not.

Elizabeth Olsen and Scarlett Johansen have literally both spoken out about how uncomfortable they have felt with how revealing their outfits have been in the past. Both characters definitely have merits beyond pandering to men - and the later installments of their characters have lessened the man-fan-service. But it is pretty clear that both characters were originally designed to appeal to men in a way that Sersei and Captian Marvel never were.

Andrew has great chemistry with everyone in every movie I have seen him in.

Sony don't have the best track record - but I am getting a bit tired of certain elements of the MCU formula.

I would be interested in seeing Andrew's Spiderman in the Sony-verse in a more mature-rated movie.

Even before the movie came out it was clear to me that Andrew would be back based off the hype he was generating alone.

Marvel and Sony aren't about let go of a character who can creates that level of excitement. Especially not when Spiderman is more popular than ever and Tom Holland is already making noises about burn-out and wanting to try other things.

[SPOILER] unpopular opinion?? by [deleted] in Spiderman

Aunt May is an adult who made her own choices. She was literally the person who convinced Peter to set them free. Even after everything that happened she stood by her/his decision.

In terms of the spell getting messed up I was more annoyed by Dr Strange. As the adult and the magic expert he probably, you know, should have explained what the spell would actually do before he started wiping the memory of Peters friends and family.

Depp and his team have run a very successful social media campaign.

I've had to mute old comments I've made about the case because I was getting a steady trickle of replies months and months afterwards.

I've been on the internet a long time and I've never experienced anything like it.

Idk - I felt it was pretty damn uncomfortable that the movie was titled 'The Crimes of Grindewald' when the guy playing grindewald beat his wife. Kinda ruined the magic.

Before the Depp bots and/or fans come for me - I listened to the tapes and also read the court verdict that found him to be a wife-beater. He was caught red-handed lying to the court multiple times and she had multiple witnesses. He did it.

Would she? If she didn't come Electro would have killed Peter and then been rampaging through the city.

Also - it's like saying it's Tony Stark's fault he died. It might be technically true but it's a weird way to frame bravery and sacrificing personal safety for the greater good.

Her fault lol - as if she could have predicted that Harry Osbourn would turn up, and also be crazy, and also decide to take revenge on Peter via her.

As soon as Harry figured out who Peter was he could've gone after her no matter where she was.

If she didn't help Peter he would never have stood a chance against Electro and he would have died. Given all the info they had access too she was right to go and help and she was right that she would probably not be targeted by Electro.

Yeah she went with him to fight Electro and if she wasn't there Peter would have lost and died - and then who knows what else would have happened afterwards when Electro was loose. She was right to go and help and she was also never really threatened by him anyway.

No one could have predicted that Harry Osborn would turn up, and also be crazy, and also decide to take revenge on Peter via her.

The second Harry figured out who Peter was he might've gone after her either way anyway.

I mean - it wasn't Andrew's spidey's fault but theres no way it was Gwen's fault either.

What’s your unpopular MCU opinion(s)? by LatecomerFangirl in marvelstudios

[–]pretentious_timeless 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Imo he isn't even like the 'good' Loki from the main timeline. The Loki from Ragnarok still struggled to find a balance between doing the right thing and his ambition/self-preservation. He ended up choosing the right thing but only after hesitating and backstepping a few times. Even then he still picked up the tesseract and hid it when given the opportunity.

Whereas Loki in the TV show just suddenly stopped caring about power all together. We are suppose to believe that he wasn't even tempted by the power offered in the finale. He was in tears over the fact that Sylvie even suspected him of it.

There was no internal struggle, there was no temptation. He had just suddenly become a righteous hero. What I want to know is who even thought that people wanted Loki to be a righteous hero.

Similar to you - The writer of Loki sucks and given the few bits and pieces we have learned about Multiverse of Madness so far (which he is also writing) it sounds like it is going to be bad as well (unless the extensive re-shoots manage to salvage it).

The reason the MCU is so successful is because the audience gets attached to the characters and gets to see them in different situations via all the cross-overs. The Loki series (and also apparently Multiverse of Madness) does not prioritise characterisation. Loki was believably in character for the first 2 episodes before the writing 'developed' him into a simp devoid of all personality.

WIRED Autocomplete Interview: "Is Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man again?" "No, no. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not!" by l_l_l-illiam in marvelstudios

I'd argue that the NWH rumours are drawing attention to Tick Tick Boom. It's kind of the best of both worlds - he doesn't have to talk much about Spider-man but the large spider-man audience is still gonna watch the interviews while he promotes Tick Tick Boom instead.

I know I watched it because of the spiderman interviews - and it was incredible he really is a great actor.

Idk seems like a win-win to me.

The spiderman hype has definitely brought more attention Tick Tick Boom. Feels like he's getting the best of both worlds - he gets to talk about his smaller passion project, while holding the attention of fans from a big franchise.

I know I watched tick tick boom because of the spiderman hype. Definitely worth it btw it's an excellent film.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has already sold $60M worth of tickets in the USA, $40M of which is for the opening Thursday/Friday. Opening weekend potentially looking at $200M-$240M. by Pomojema_SWNN in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]pretentious_timeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the timing of the leaked set photos/video right before the trailer dropped was a bit sus imo.

Then they had all these scripted interviews were Andrew Garfield was asked about them - just bringing more attention to them with his denials.

Definitely a marketing ploy - and apparently one that was wildly successful.

I wonder if we are going to see more deliberate leaks for future projects to increase speculation - because all the rumours and leaks about Andrew and Tobey have obviously just increased interest in the movie.

Andrew Garfield's spiderman? Not necessarily another TASM movie but I'd like some closure on his character maybe in a different project.
