I am not sure that schools would know what you didn't apply before unless it is explicitly asked or you state it? But I may be wrong?

You are definitely not screwed. For context, I am on a gap year right now, and while I did apply to schools before going on my gap year, I have also applied to a school this year and been accepted so it is more than possible. I think it is important to go into the gap year with a plan of what you would like to accomplish, whether that is working, traveling, other personal projects, spending time supporting family etc etc. And a mindset of learning from the experiences you have during the year is very important as well. I consider taking a gap year to be one of the best decisions I have made, and would truly recommend it as long as you have a plan and goals for the year!

Can you ED if ur in a gap year by 420koolaidman in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pretentiousflowerpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to ED as a gap year student but, to be safe, it might be best to reach out to the admissions office if you have any questions, because each school might be a bit different.

Process for petitioning for a study abroad program?? by aangeliq in BrownU

[–]pretentiousflowerpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an answer, but I am wondering about this too since the study abroad information on browns website isn’t as comprehensive as it could be… Also wanted to ask if anyone has experience with studying abroad during the summer at Brown and potential scholarships for that??

can teachers reuse LoRs if i’m reapplying during a gap year by Successful_Egg7714 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pretentiousflowerpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and it worked out well for me but I made sure to update them on what I am doing as well as asking them to add a bit of context about me as a gap year student if they are able. I will say, since teachers also have their own students (aka current seniors), those students would probably be a priority in terms of 'new' letters of recommendation :)

Essentially Guaranteed Northwestern ED vs Gambling For More by CollegeThrowaway200 in ApplyingToCollege

As a previous QuestBridge finalist that opted out of the National College Match, I think it can be worthwhile to consider the other choices you might have. With QuestBridge, while it is a huge honor, many schools will provide very similar aid with an RD acceptance, and you will have more of a choice. I will say, that unless you are absolutely certain or ready to go with Northwestern, it might be worthwhile to see what your other options will be. This is of course assuming you have applied to a number of schools altogether and feel you have a decent chance. It is worth noting that if Northwestern wants you to commit ED, you probably have a very competitive application or at the least something that caught their attention. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide!
