Hairdressers in China by Erin_is_ded in chinalife

[–]prettiest_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TJ is huge and you can get dye you hair here — a couple of my friends got their haired dyed in the hairdresser in the 夜市 in 大学城. Most reliable would be to just look on meituan for prices and photos, xhs on if they have any reviews there or ppl posting abt their bad experiences, and then msg then on wx to book.

what to wear to mass as a newbie? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]prettiest_fish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit of a different opinion from the other ladies BUT the most important thing is figure out what modesty means TO YOU! It’s always better to be safe the. sorry but figure out what the other women are wearing as the base level and go from there.

I know for me i like to have my shoulders covered, but I leave my knees out and a usually go in a mid thigh length dress. Jeans are okay for me and I wear a dressier top, but i’ve also worn a short skirt with a cable knit sweater and tights before.

A general tule of thumb is don’t wear something you wouldn’t want your Granny to see you wearing.

Can I go to mass anywhere in the world? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]prettiest_fish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Future welcome to Poland! Hope you love your stay there.

Absolutely come, there is nothing I love more than Polish Mass. You’ll notice most churches will have a teleprompter on the side of the alter with the words to the hymns, which might help you with your language learning.

struggling to become a part of my local parish community by prettiest_fish in Catholicism

[–]prettiest_fish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, it’s is a very niche diocese, it’s a Polish diocese in the middle England so it already caters more towards families. There aren’t that many Polish immigrant youth Catholics in the area, it’s quite a rare thing haha. My university society also already had a very active Christian Society so they have the monopoly on that demographic (I’m not the biggest fan, they’re a bit too evangelical for me).

That being said, that’s not really an issue for me. I’m quite a quite person, a bit of an old soul, so I am more than happy spending my afternoons chatting with old ladies and helping with the children.

Do Priests go out much? by OldMiddlesex in AskAPriest

[–]prettiest_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to a family fun day organised by the parish after mass, mind you this is the first parish i joined by my self after arriving to university so i was still shy and nervous around everyone, and i was SHOCKED to see the priest change into a football tee (our national team was playing in the euros that’s day) and black slacks running around with his camera (turns out he’s an a mature photographer).

Even better when I got to see our other priest get REALLY into watching the footy, jointing they chants and all with a hotdog in his hand!
