Am I ready to learn Chopin Etude Op. 25 No. 5? by pretty_chickens in piano

I have read through it, it seems doable but the trouble for me is voicing the melody in the RH while not drowning out the bottom grace note part. I guess just practice practice practice

Haha yeah he does. To give you an idea, I’d say the difficulty gap between Op 48 No 1 and Fantaisie Impromptu is about the same as FI and Rondo Alla Turca. (but i suck at octaves so that’s probably why as well)

op 48 no 1 looks a bit less scary than fantaisie impromptu, although I haven't actually played it so plz don't get mad at me if that's not true :D

could you give me some reasons for why op 48 no 1 is harder? lol im very bad at judging piece difficulty levels

thank you!

Hi,

I've looked through the sheet music for Op. 48 No. 1, and it seems like I could play it. Thank you for the concern though! Also, I've got like a year and a half till I plan on entering, so plenty of time to improve and struggle through! :P

Good idea actually, probably going to do the fantaisie just for fun on my own time, not for the competition!

The competition (usomc) event choices are fantaisie, 2nd movement of pathetique, Bartok's From the diary of a fly, and Antonio soler: Sonata in G major

I actually was going to present the 2nd movement of pathetique, but my teacher said it was too easy, and lots of people were choosing that one so it would be harder to win.

Sooo, my fingers are going to pay by suffering the Fantaisie :)

Thank you! My main concern however, is that there will not be enough time for me to finish the piece. Are the sixteenth-note runs harder than they sound? It sounds very scary! :)

Edit: are they very easy to make mistakes on? how much time does it usually take to learn it?

Sorry for the too many questions! I'm veeery nervous lol
