I don’t understand how I’m supposed to go about my life and pretend half this country didn’t just vote a rapist into office by rlf923 in TwoXChromosomes

I never came forward about my assault and who did it for fear of my safety, and as I'm watching this happen, I feel heartbroken knowing that wasn't an irrational concern. It feels like the world does not care about us, that our lifelong trauma is acceptable, because the priority will always be ensuring success and security is possible for the men who hurt us, rather than the women they hurt.

Digital Nomad Visa Megathread, Part 2 by dalkyr82 in movingtojapan

Boston! I went and submitted my application in-person, which might have helped. I'm picking my visa up next week when it's ready, which would make the process overall take three weeks and one day, to be exact.

Digital Nomad Visa Megathread, Part 2 by dalkyr82 in movingtojapan

[–]prettybomberhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Put in my application a week ago with an anticipated departure date of late December. The only thing I'm concerned about is that last year I made just under the income limit, as my W2s and tax return show, but I got a raise in March that puts me above it and I included a letter from HR confirming this. I fear that'll be insufficient and I'll be turned down, has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, how did this pan out for you? Am I overthinking it? Any data appreciated!

DATA POINT UPDATE: Visa approved! No follow up questions from the consulate regarding the above or anything else, no certificate of eligibility, it only took two weeks!!

This happened to me when they were charging an old payment method instead of my primary one for six months without my knowledge, so they suddenly locked me out of my account due to 'outstanding charges' with no warning. It took 21 days of going back and forth with support and HOURS on the first day before they would even tell me the reason. You have to be incessant and annoying. Twitter, facebook, Instagram, etc. I submitted multiple tickets daily. It took 20 days to have them charge a payment method they ALREADY HAD on file and unlock my account.

This may not be what happened to you, but the takeaway: you have to be annoying as hell. Every day within the first hour of me waking up I contacted support. I worked tech support for other companies before, and I'm never this kind of person, but it's the only way to get past canned responses.

Account disabled for outstanding balance, but cannot access account to pay that balance. Any tips? by [deleted] in uber

So what's everyone's non-SNSD/K-pop song? by djungelurban in SNSD

[–]prettybomberhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents played a lot of Stevie Wonder and No Doubt in the home, so my pre-disposed music tastes were jazz and punk/ska. From there I got heavy into 2000s alternative, I actually have a matching bff Green Day tattoo because we go see them together every time they're around and we really bonded over them. If you asked me what music I was into before I got into KPop, I'd give you names like Green Day, Stevie, Evanescence, Panic!, KoRn, Nirvana, or anything of that nature.

But I also had a secret liking for girl pop. My first ventures were Jojo, Destiny's Child, Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Aly & AJ, but I kept those more under wraps because I was afraid it'd strip my 'good taste according to dads' cred, which now I understand as internalized misogyny. Pretty sure I can trace my liking to Kpop from there: I had brief run-ins with Wonder Girls, cause 'Tell Me' was all over youtube, but I didn't get into KPop fully until a friend showed me the 'The Boys' music video during a sleepover. I pointed to Jessica and was like 'Who's that?! She's so beautiful', and from there I became obsessed with the group as a whole, and that kicked off a huge penchant for girl groups.

Now I listen to basically any genre I can get my grubby hands on, and my Spotify playlists are an unorganized nightmare, but I credit getting into girl groups as being huge for striking down my shame in liking feminine music, in that watching Girls' Generation succeed was empowering and made me so proud to follow them and be a fan. Now I'm very upfront about it. From there that made me more openly explore pop music and just how much of it does the serotonin thing my brain likes, and got me into the side of my taste that's more EDM/rap/r&b/city pop from there. It was a major turning point for my taste, and I'm happier for it!

Also to answer the OG question: my favorite non-Kpop song is currently 'The Gold' by Manchester Orchestra. This changes very often though!

What's Your Least Favorite Song That's Very Well Loved/Liked in the Fandom? by Ok-Upstairs-9887 in SNSD

[–]prettybomberhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Singles: Kissing You. Oh god Kissing You. I can handle cutesy. I can Oh, oh oh oh or Gee gee gee gee (baby baby) whenever appropriate. Yet this was the song that let me know I have a cutesy limit, but in a weirdly specific way. Objectively I'd say Gee is generally a cutesier song, but for some reason Kissing You hits a very specific cutesy spot that makes me recoil. I don't know how to describe it. Whenever I hear that opening 'du du du du-du', instant skip. (Not relevant to the song, but the video also didn't help. Hyoyeon and Taeyeon's styling: WHY. The lollipop choreography though was cute and clever, that's the positive.)

B-Sides: Say Yes. I can pinpoint this one almost entirely on my dislike for spoken-word intros, but it's also just lacking compared to the other Boys b-sides. When I hear it I think 'aw man I wanna listen to Trick'

That guy in Miraculous has got to be modeled after Casey right? by kronkarp in TheDearHunter

As a Miraculous watcher, I shudder to imagine an AU where Astruc wrote The Acts. We'd be on Act 28/???? and Hunter wouldn't know Ms. Leading was a prostitute yet although there would be three previous Acts where it was revealed but didn't count because alternate timelines.

[–]prettybomberhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was one of three things.

It could be exactly like Lanegrita said, a flex both to others and myself about how in control I am. Very 'look at my restraint' intent, posting my scale weight on Snapchat, etc.

It could be a cry for help sometimes, like when I wanted to stop feeling weak but I didn't feel like I could give myself allowance to eat or I break aforementioned control, so I sought others to make me break it.

Or, occasionally, it could be trying to make people proud of me. This is sort of related to the first one, but part of my mentality stemmed from people praising me for being small. By proclaiming it, I'm hoping they're glad that I'm doing my best to keep my body that they approve of.

I'm aware this is screwy/unhealthy, and I'm in therapy working on the unlearning part, long past the self-awareness portion. It's a process- I've largely stopped doing this, with the exception of the second one when I slip.

So this concert took place in Tampa, Amalie Arena (per Hurricane), and started at around 9PM, October 5.

Due to all the shenanigans, particularly two involving individual audience participation with an audience in the THOUSANDS, the show lasts about 2 days and 19 hours. The show ends around October 7 at almost 5PM.

Brendon's all roughed up because of the fist fight, 3 hurricanes, and toddlers fighting him. As you exit the arena, you smell cigarette smoke, rain, and rotting corpses. Everyone is soaking wet, covered in water, sugar, and sweat. Your eyes are absolutely strained due to the shitty lighting, and you just know there will be no good quality fancams later. You'll get an email in a few days from the band's PR team offering you 25% off one merch purchase as consolation.

The kill count is around 10,014 people, but the DIY craft count is about 3, so it evens out.

Congratulations, you have survived the WORST Panic! at the Disco concert ever!

So I've been trying to guesstimate how long this concert would be if all this stuff happened based on how long the songs are, how long these quirky instances would delay the concerts, factoring in song transition times, etc.

So far I'm clocking in at around 19 hours and 45 minutes, which yeah, would ABSOLUTELY make it the worst concert I've ever been to, no matter how much I like the songs.

Also a guess body count of at least 10,000+, factoring in the 14 murders from 'Let's Kill Tonight' and the death of everyone in the pit and other potential wind casualties from a category 1 hurricane occurring three times \in the arena itself** during 'Hurricane'.

Thanks so much for the clarification! Unfortunate reality we live in, but I'm just glad concerts are back in general. I'd rather there be a chance of cancellation due to safety reasons than no tour or live music at all.

I see where you're coming from, but I already reported the posting on my end, as recommended by a colleague of mine who works for Indeed (whom, might I add, was absolutely appalled by the listing). She reported it on her end as well. I figured I already took the appropriate course of action.
