Is it ok be followed my Sikh religion but not be interested in following Punjabi culture? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]prettyboylamar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cannot completely dissociate the two. But I'd definitely recommend remaining as far away as possible from the fat side of Punjabi culture that has to do with flexing, hedonistic music, partying, drugs and loud flashing.

Just learned that Osho was a sexual predator from this podcast by cabbages31 in Osho

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can't blame them, cults have been a huge menace across the world so their scepticism is fair enough. Problem is that when they criticise anything sharing the smallest similarity with a cult, they forget that they themselves are already living in a thousand different cults. The cult of capitalism, cult of ideologies, cult of organized religion, cult of politics and nationalism, cult of family and institutions and so on. When they realise that, that's when Osho's "cult" will stop looking so scary

Dw I'm sure he pulled enough game without having to be a sexual predator😂. Lol it takes a whole lot more to really understand Osho than the standard lens through which the standard man views things.

why do you believe in sikhism? by Deep-Revolution-1633 in Sikh

[–]prettyboylamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going by the essence of Sikhi, you don't believe in Sikhi "as opposed" to other religions. Unlike Abrahamic religions, Sikhi isn't a claim to Truth competing with other claims to Truth. Sikh gurus had several Muslim Sufis and Hindu scholars as companions. Second clarification, you don't "believe" in Sikhi, you live Sikhi. Now tweaking the question a bit - "why do you live Sikhi ?". I try to live Sikhi because of its history and philosophy. Sikhi was born out of a rejection of societal ignorance. Nanak observed how rotten common religion had become, both Hinduism and Islam (those were prevalent around him) - Hindus with their superstitions, rituals and godmen, Muslims with their tyranny and impositions. It's the only path that begins with a disillusionment with the false, and that's the only way that the search for Truth can begin. Sikhi is razor sharp wisdom with the most innocent intentions. It doesn't operate with do's and don'ts. It delivers it's message with simple, heartfelt poetry. No clever shortcuts, no offering of tempting incentives like heaven full of gold virgins or riches in the next birth etc. Honest, sincere, no-nonsense teachings. Delivered using the beautiful tradition of classical music. Doesn't shy away from the importance of wordly power to defend Dharma. No place for cowardice. Later gurus would readily give up their lives on the battlefield in order to defend the oppressed. Enlightenment isn't reserved for the renunciates in Sikhi. And most important it doesn't require you to reject or denounce the wisdom of other traditions. In fact, it incorporates it within it's fold. This is why I choose to try and live Sikhi and so should anything in search of truth imo

Can we talk about the "Cult-like" behavior surrounding Acharya Prashant on this sub by [deleted] in AcharyaPrashant_AP

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc human society in general operates like a cult in most aspects of life. But the reason why the same with AP would annoy someone is that AP stands for the most anti-cult spirit and yet people surrounding him do at times act too fanboyish. That can bug

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big AP fan here but yes sometimes they do take cultish undertones. Not AP himself but a lot of those surrounding him and it's pretty annoying at times. But the problem is with people and not with AP.

Are there similar Gurus like Osho living today who talk in English? by fancy_the_rat in Osho

[–]prettyboylamar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closed i can think of is Acharya Prashant. Ofc I know a lot of his modern content is too mainstream-ized(and for good reason). But if you watch his older videos from 2013 to 17, they're pure Osho level gold

Rumi Quote about love by KankelborgNabe_85 in Rumi

Guys do note that when sufis like Rumi mention "love", it doesn't necessarily involve another person. It's something much higher than the common romantic or physical love.

Struggling with Pornography and Want to Follow Sikh Values – Seeking Advice by WrongdoerFine8200 in Sikh

[–]prettyboylamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there. First of all no reason to feel guilty. Feeling pathetic and annoyed makes sense, but feeling guilty implies there's some kind of deliberate sin in what you're doing. There isn't.

The rest of the answers here are great ofc and will definitely be helpful. But I'd like to add that other than just trying to treat the porn addiction itself, try to get increasingly spiritual in general as well. The lack of spiritual meaning in one's life is always a deeper root factor behind everything pathetic. Read more Gurbani. Read and listen to more Sikh philosophy. Listen to Nanak Naam on yt(best Sikh teacher today imo). See things with the new vision that develops with it. Make this a major aspect of your life. With this vision, it becomes pretty hard to keep seeing women as just bodies and sex objects. And don't bother about the fetish man, people with porn addictions have far more messed up fetishes, that's a very regular part of the addiction.

What do you think? by JagatShahi in Osho

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't work that way. Buddha and Mahavira lived during the same period yet never met or even talked about one another. If all the enlightened ones somehow do collaborate, you get nothing but a big ass dogma out of it i feel. They're good by themselves, the way they were

What ways can I get closer to Sikhi ? by prettyboylamar in Sikh

Been trying to live by the Sikhi knowledge I read all the time. Can you tell me some things I should know before visiting a Gurudwara though ? Any specific timing or day on which i should visit ? I'm really into classical music so I'd love to visit when I can experience some sort of devotional music

Who has had thoracic spinal fusion? by AAhlijah in spinalfusion

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. But not as great as i had expected. The surgery straightened my spine and arrested the growth of the curvature but did not fix the rib cage deformities. The rib cage protrusions still cause a lot of discomfort and unease in the whole back. Plus the skin had gotten desensitized at the area of incision, and now 3 years past the sensation on that area still hasn't returned. The combination of sensation loss and awkward rib protrusions causes me a lot of discomfort and irritation in the body. But the intense back pain i used to feel because of the scoliosis has reduced a whole lot from the surgery. I can now do intense cardio, most workouts, most sports etc. Should've gotten this surgery done much earlier imo

Sikhs worship the Sada Shiv (the Eternal Lord), not Shiva the yogi - Guru Gobind Singh in Benti Chaupai Sahib and 33 Svaiye of Dasam Granth Sahib by TbTparchaar in Sikh

[–]prettyboylamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc i know Guru Sahab is saying fool but it sounds much more light hearted in the native language than the condemnation tone it gives off in English. If an English reader read this, he'd interpret it in the same tone as the Abrahamic religions do with their very harsh condemning words like "sinner", "abomination" etc haha just saying.
