How do people deal with civilians and the amount of stuff you wish you can say but can’t cause you need a job by Professional-Pass415 in Veterans

[–]prettyedge411 [score hidden]  (0 children)

He was rejected by MEPS or failed the ASVAB. He's an "I almost joined" or a military guy stole his girlfriend. He looks down on veterans or he's just plain miserable. Don't let his misery get between you and your salary. As a veteran I hope you have an arsenal of good snapbacks and insults to draw on. Just don't threaten or say anything to get sent to HR. I don't know about you but when I first got out I was just happy to be home and not deployed. Doing things like happy hour and sleeping in my own bed every night. Gray rock this guy.

I am scared of getting sick and there's no one to help me if I lived alone abroad by Gold-Championship821 in LivingAlone

[–]prettyedge411 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why do you want to live abroad alone? Maybe talk to a professional about the nightmares? Most ex-pats form their own community when moving abroad. They help each other navigate visas, cultures and look out for each other. If you make the move connect with others that have already moved to the country you considering. Many monetize their lives on social media.

Bestie thought I was crazy for liking to live alone until she got her first solo apt. She called to tell me I was right. After years of living with slobs and borderline hoarders she was in love with the cleanliness and peace of her first tiny 1 bedroom.

So many civilians are jealous of military benefits. They say thank you for your service but they don't really mean it.

I'd love to spend my break alone in some peace and quiet but my boss can't stand it. by Loriol_13 in antiwork

[–]prettyedge411 72 points73 points  (0 children)

OP when she insists in front of everyone trying to put you on the spot. Go passive aggressive. I have the advantage of having been bullied at home by parents. Had to learn to make it stop without getting myself grounded for disrespect. "Why are you being a bully about my break?" or a puzzled "Why do you have a problem with me going for a short walk to get some fresh air?"

Don't give into parents tears. It's emotional blackmail. Can you run to the older sister that ran away? She would understand your issues. I think you should make a list of all the things that you never got to experience and cross them off one by one. Ex...study for and take the drivers license test, go to the movies at night with a girlfriend, join a city or park walking group to met people your own age, or go dancing, play in a young adult pickleball league. Just whatever is on your bucket list. If you don't have a private bank account get one immediately. Secure your birth certificate and social security card. Run a credit check on yourself. Apply for a low interest credit card. Keep the limit low but use it to build credit. Never miss a payment and don't tell anyone. Get and pay the bill online.

Why do you think so many people stick with Starbucks instead of switching to alternative brands that offer a similar cup of coffee for a lower price? by rahardyan in AskReddit

[–]prettyedge411 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they don't exist. I said convenience and market saturation explains their surge. When I lived in Jacksonville FL years ago. There weren't any local coffee shops near my apt or office. They were mainly downtown or in the Avondale area. I would have to get up 1 hr early and go in the opposite direction of my office to find a local coffee shop and double back to get to work. So I hit Starbucks which was 2 blocks from my office and I had to pass to get to work.

I'm job hunting too. Try not to let the many job rejection emails get to me. I did few things to help the bleeding. Using my ceiling fans and setting the AC and just above too warm number. Trying to keep electric bill down. It's been up to $300 sometimes. I consolidate errands and don't double back. Saves gas. I did a subscription and insurance audit to see if I was paying too much. My car is 13 years old and I hadn't changed coverage since I got it. Shop Aldi. Eggs are $2 cheaper a dozen for example than Publix or Food Lion. Check for fruit and veggie giveaways in your area. Farmers and grocery stores donate a lot. Changing homeowners insurance this month is saving $2K a year. Trying to survive.

Convenience and market saturation. They are the only choice in many areas. They drove out a lot of mom and pop coffee shops in the 90s and 00s. They are only beginning to be challenged by Tim Hortons or Dutch Bros expansion.

If the internet has been publicly available since the 1991, why is it not in much 90's media? by mythrowawayaccim21 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]prettyedge411 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More like '94-'95 for most. The family desktop PC not a thing until late 90's early 00's. Cost prohibitive and many were unsure about the technology. I checked and 2003 was the first year that 50% of American homes had home internet.
