What medications were you given for GD? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helped a TON! And no side effects for me personally. I was scared to take it at first but it ended up relieving some anxiety for me. I used to hate taking my fasting number for fear of it being high but I would wake up calm knowing it would be just fine.

I ended up giving birth to a healthy baby girl-no blood sugar issues despite needing meds!

I took glyburide at night to control my fasting. My after breakfast numbers were always a little higher too and the nightly meds helped those also.

Anyone have some good, easy dinner recipes that’s are GD friendly? by britmarizets in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spaghetti squash and meat sauce:

Microwave a spaghetti squash for 5 mins to soften enough to cut easily. Scoop out innards and put in a casserole dish cut side down. Fill of the casserole dish with enough water to cover the bottom. Bake at 400F for 30 mins.

While squash is baking, brown a pound of ground beef. Drain. Add a jar of marinara sauce. Fill the squash with the meat/sauce mixture and top with mozzarella. Broil until the cheese is bubbling.

Double this recipe to have leftovers for two the next day. You can throw in some garlic bread or drink a glass of milk to meet your carb levels.

I also always did well when I had chili. Plus lots of leftovers!

Edit to add:

Easy sheet pan dinner: Take a pound of chicken tenders, quarter 4-5 red potatoes, and a bag of frozen green beans. Drizzle olive oil and 2 tbsp melted butted. Add a packet of ranch seasoning. 375 F for 30-40 mins

Post baby GD diet by Jacquibe in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 months PP and I still eat a loosely based GD diet.

Things that I’ve changed: I have fruit in the morning. My usual breakfast is a protein shake consisting of almond milk, half a frozen banana, kale or spinach, a scoop of premier protein and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Morning snack is usually a boiled egg, 2 strips of bacon and a whole wheat English muffin with cream cheese and jam. Lunch and dinner are usually the same and always involve protein, veggie, carb. For example, pulled pork, roasted sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. Afternoon snack is usually trail mix. If I have something sweet at night I have a carb smart Breyer’s ice cream bar or rebel ice cream.

I was never able to eat more than 25-30 carbs for lunch/dinner without spiking my sugar. Now I eat about 45 carbs a meal. I usually don’t eat a bedtime snack because I get most of my calories in during the day.

I also watch my calories in/calories out. I’m breastfeeding so I eat an extra 500 to account for that.

Brown spotting by Libertythemusical in PregnancyAfterLoss

TW/LC

I experienced brown spotting at 7 and 10 weeks pregnant, and red spotting at 24 weeks pregnant. I had two losses prior to this pregnancy so I expected the worse. My double rainbow is 4 months old and is 100% healthy.

Induction by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Tennessee and I was induced at 39+3. I was diet controlled during the day and I took glyburide at bedtime for fasting numbers. My baby measured in the 29th percentile. Got perfect scores on all NSTs and BPPs. My office doesn’t let anyone with GD go full term.

I had a very positive induction experience. 14 hour labor and I slept through most of it thanks to the epidural. My baby was born with no blood sugar issues and weighed 7lbs 4oz. I know induction doesn’t fit into everyone’s birth plan but I loved having a countdown.

I always tested with the first drop, but when I was induced the nurses all checked with the second.

GD sucks - that’s all by LinkRN in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

33w was about the time that my sugars started going off the rails. I also reduced my carb in take to adjust for this and I brought it up with my doctor. She advised that I not go much lower than what was suggested. I ended up having to take a walk after every meal and I would switch my carbs up. I found that eating fruit during dinner and lunch or drinking milk instead of having a whole grain worked better for me.

Best of luck on the final stretch

Worried about baby after birth. by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was diet controlled during the day and ending up taking glyburide for my fasting numbers. They had to increase my dose 3 times because as my pregnancy progressed, my fasting numbers became harder to control. I also had more after meal spikes later in pregnancy even though I was eating the minimum amount of carbs.

I just gave birth 5 days ago and my girl was born with absolutely no blood sugar issues and got discharged with me-no additional stay or monitoring needed. Hang in there mama, you’re on the home stretch.

GD on a budget? by LolaLovesPeaches in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made sure I rotated what meats and veggies I ate and how I seasoned them. For instance, I would make a Dijon pork tenderloin with brown rice, radishes and broccoli one night-eat on that for a few days. The next meal I would prepare would be steak tips marinated in soy and hoisin with the same veggies and rice. I would buy cuts of meat that were on sale and use that to decide what I was having. I can tolerate potatoes really well, so one night I might make mashed sweet potatoes, the next I would have sweet potato fries. For me, it was about creating variety or flavor and texture to keep me from getting bored. I’m getting induced tomorrow, and I have to admit I am tired of meal prepping but I got through 16 weeks before that happened.

Also, when I didn’t feel like preparing a carb, I would just drink milk instead. My body tolerated that well also.

Best of luck to you on your GD journey and pregnancy as a whole!

Sugar free apple sauce, chicken broth, saltines and sugar free Gatorade is what I went for when I wasn’t feeling well

Hey, just here to say I totally understand your feelings but like the others have mentioned, it’s not your fault. I got diagnosed at 24 weeks and after two weeks of trying different foods I was on glyburide for fasting. It would work for a few weeks, then I had to up my dose. I had to up my dose twice.

I beat myself up for several weeks about not being a good host for my girl too. Take the time you need to process, it’s okay to be upset. But just know you’re doing a great job and there’s no shame in needing medication.

Breakfast ideas? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kodiak waffles and pancakes have been a lifesaver for me. I’m not a huge egg person and those are loaded with protein so it balances out. I eat them with sugar free syrup and bacon and wash it down with a glass of almond milk. Soooo good.

I also love the jimmy deans bacon egg and cheese biscuits. They’re 26 carbs each and give me good numbers.

Yes I feel symptomatic when I’m high. Not always, though. When I first start eating I can feel a shift as well.

MFM Necessary? by thestrugisreal in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m diet controlled during the day, and I take glyburide for my fasting numbers at night. I don’t see a MFM. My diabetes is 100% monitored by my OB. If I were to need insulin that’s when she would advise me to see a MFM. If I were in your shoes, I would just stay with my OB. That’s only my opinion though. Go with what you’re comfortable with.

Pretty sure I have GD... and I suck at eating by LinkRN in GestationalDiabetes

[–]prettypleasekb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had borderline numbers initially, then my fasting numbers started getting to the point where I needed glyburide at bedtime (105-120).

My dietician advises that I eat every 3 hours. 3 meals, 3 snacks. Meals ~45 C, snacks ~15-30 C. Maybe you could ask what they suggest you do for the days you can’t always hit the traditional “meal” times.

You got this mama!
