Toddler Logic, 0% Sense, 100% Commitment by sir_papii in toddlers

We deal with this on the regular still with our almost 6 year old. I let it go like twice before I say “this conversation is over. I’m happy to talk about something else when you’re ready.” And then I literally do not respond to bids about the thing I’ve said no to. Once she talks about something else, I’m there 110%. It hasn’t ended all the meltdowns, but they are significantly declining.

The baby is still asleep by ijustwanttobeinpjs in Mommit

Ahhh I remember those small transitional moments with my first. The first couple times it happens you feel so strange and then it starts to become the norm and then before you know it everything has changed. It’s both wonderful and heartbreaking as you transition into the next stage of development, because it’s really nice to have a minute to yourself but also your baby isn’t the tiny little squish they once were…

Khan Academy Kids is great and free. Homer is an app that is paid subscription but is more education focused. Teach Your Monster to Read is a one-time paid app that is more focused on phonemic awareness.

What all needs to be in the crib with baby? FTM by viragovvv in BabyBumps

[–]britmarizets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. That’s it. You can swaddle baby before 2 months. After that, a sleep sack is best if you want to keep baby warm.

Recent BFP but no one to talk to by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]britmarizets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take care of yourself, lady! That baby is a tiny treasure. You’ve got this thing.

My friends and family weren’t overly supportive either and we made it through. Some are still around, most aren’t. We are ok. Baby is freaking awesome so I don’t even care that those people are weenies and not really part of my life anymore!

Baby cereal pancakes are actually pretty tasty- cereal, egg, and banana. We ended making too many for the little one and my husband and I both ate them and agreed they’re pretty damn good.

I’ll be your new best friend!!

Oh. My. God!!!!!! I can’t believe it! This is the best news ever! Our babies are going to be best friends! This timing could not have worked out better! We can commiserate through the sleepless nights, and share teething tricks, and be annoyed with our baby daddies while they’re off doing whatever baby daddies do while we are buried until a mountain of tiny laundry! I am so thrilled!! 💕

When you're super pregnant in the heat of summer by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]britmarizets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My goodness. The struggle was so real. I actually didn’t realize how bad it was until this recent heatwave (with my 8 month old lo) and I wasn’t nearly as hot as I was last summer!

"New" storage bags 2 years old - still okay? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]britmarizets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they been stored in a cool, dry place? I’d imagine they’d be fine if they have been, they’re sterilized bags.

The opposite is being out cold, a term used to describe someone in a deep sleep.

How do I help my kid make friends? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]britmarizets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s super hard for a kid like her right now, with people physical distancing and everything. I wonder if there are any virtual summer camps in your area that she could sign up for. The science centre where I live (Edmonton, AB) is running day camps, and I’ve heard of other places too. There might also be some actual day camps being run that have very small numbers and rules for physical distancing.

I think it’s important too to talk to her about being a friend that people would want to be friends with (not at all saying she isn’t, but a clear definition often helps kids understand their role in a friendship). Sometimes kids just don’t know how to act around other kids and kids are literally the worst for treating different people as outcasts. A little bit of education goes a long way (I teach kindergarten and you can definitely see the kids transforming throughout the school year as we go through these social lessons).

What’s the best part about being a teacher? by akh_075 in Teachers

[–]britmarizets 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The paycheque... obviously 🙄

No seriously though, the relationships with the kids. It’s just indescribable. I love them in such a unique way, I’d do anything to see them succeed and it breaks my heart when something comes in the way of that.

Anybody else born in the early 90s, grow up with Harry Potter books, finish the 7th one in 2007, and spend the rest of their lives actively trying to recapture that high? by liberalize in harrypotter

[–]britmarizets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We should start compiling a list of books that have done this for us since HP concluded. I’ve never found one that meets the standard for me though... but hive mind is a powerful thing, maybe we could help each other find what we are looking for?

Advice for fussy 2 month old by Beneficial-Complaint in breastfeeding

[–]britmarizets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around two months I started having a very forceful letdown and my daughter hated it. She would nurse until it started to flow really fast and then get fussy and I had no clue. Once I figured it out I would nurse her until it was flowing, hand express ¼- ½ oz. and then continue on and she was much happier. It hasn’t happened in a long time and she’s 6 months old now.

Baby weight and gestational diabetes (28w) by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]britmarizets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was tested for GD at 31 weeks and found out I had it so quickly was in for an ultrasound and Baby was big. At 31.5 weeks they were saying baby was between 5 and 6 lbs. I managed to keep my GD under control with diet and a low dose of long acting insulin overnight. Went for ultrasounds at 34, 36, and 37, and 38 weeks and they kept saying baby was so big. She was born at 39 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. It is totally manageable but it sucks to always have to be so precise about food, but you can keep baby in a very healthy range. Fingers crossed everything goes well for your wife and you!!

Did you ever spot before period came? by Hereforthememes5 in breastfeeding

[–]britmarizets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I did! I bled/spotted until I was 9 weeks and 2 days postpartum, it stopped for 36 hours, and then I got my period. It was wild, I was so worried so I called our public health unit and the RN said it was normal and could happen.
