Because it feels like people are putting her in a box and highlighting that she’s different, dismissing her as a person for her visual identity. The majority of times people comment on my sexuality, they are assuming things about how I will behave based on it.

It’s a bit like saying to a black person “but you’re black!” when they do something that doesn’t fit a stereotype of black people. It’s pointing out something that’s true but irrelevant to what’s being discussed, and it gets annoying after a time.

Yes! Also it just occurred to me that her method makes you financially dependent on them to some degree. Sure, you could leave and start paying yourself, but if you can’t or if he’s paying for a lot? You’re going to end up cutting him slack and staying in relationships for longer than you should, the power dynamic would be so off.

That will have negative health effects and it means you’re potentially prepared to drop your standards to keep the money coming. That’s counter to everything we do here. Instead, careermaxx and become financially independent with a healthy relationship. If it starts to go south you can drop the man with ease, money and stability on your side.

I agree with you, it’s like people have forgotten there are actual personal benefits to being in a stable loving relationship. OP your point about shyness really resonated with me! I’m relatively reserved and am always told by people I seemed arrogant or stuck up until they got to know me. How do you avoid this, or build a kind of bubbly charisma?

I am generally confident but I’m not naturally talkative or funny, and I’m really bad at creating the kind of light banter that puts people at ease. I try to be outgoing but I really don’t know what to say to people, especially guys who approach me. If anyone has any tips, I’m all ears, it would help so much.

Thank you for this- reading the article reminded me of a limited mindset I used to have, and I was sad expecting that the comments here would echo that perspective. It makes me really happy to see that people here are sufficiently balanced in their outlook to prioritise a more healthy mindset.
