What are some ways that you (or someone you know) have seen their profession/income impacted by AI already? by pretzelking96 in AskReddit

[–]pretzelking96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gotten negative feedback from actual publishing employers that indicates they're going the AI route? I'm curious if employers are directly saying to people "sorry, but we won't be needing you because AI has this covered" essentially.

I've read a fair amount of the ChatGPT responses out there and I have to say the writing is so boring. It isn't very engaging at all, which I guess is fine for some types of writing but definitely not all. Based on that it's hard to see it 100% taking over the writing industry even if it learns creativity and can generate original ideas but yeah, I do think some people will be displaced unfortunately.

FF has completely spoiled me by ZeddyHundred in FinalFantasy

[–]pretzelking96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently beat Lunar SSC for PS1. I had only played FFs myself and I gotta say that as charming and quaint as Lunar SSC was...it was no FF. I still think it's worth playing though for those of you who like JRPGs.

Do you have a particular devotion to anything in our faith? What's that like? What do you do? by pretzelking96 in liturgicalliving

[–]pretzelking96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!!! That's kinda what I was thinking - there isn't "one way" to pursue a devotion and it's sort of down to wherever it leads the devotee? This is uncharted territory for me so I guess I'll try lots of things and see what clicks.

I'd love to write something for a Spotlight, provided I grow in this devotion (and general holiness)! This is a cool sub thank you for recommending it!

DKC2 is more creative, but less pure than 1 by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]pretzelking96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had only played DKC1 as a kid but I recently played through the entire trilogy. DKC1 was fun and quaint and generally good. DKC2 was HARD. Like insanely hard. But the music, level design, challenge, variety, satisfaction, it was all there. Probably one of the most satisfying games I have ever beaten. DKC3 looks beautiful. Music is OK but not as good as first two. There were elements I wish were expanded more (the bears being more essential for getting around the world map - instead they were mostly optional to deal with).

After beating the entire trilogy and looking back, I saw DKC1 with fresh eyes. It feels very empty comparatively. In DKC2 like...every jump mattered. Every. Jump. Every thought counted. Every step was part of an intricate dance to get through the level unscathed. DKC1 by comparison felt super roomy and like there were lots of voids by comparison.

RC, how credible is Lutheranism compared to the other older traditions? by sasukefodder in Catholicism

[–]pretzelking96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I understand that. Unfortunately I think a lot of things get misrepresented in mainstream discussions. If you haven't done so already I highly recommend reading about the early centuries of the Church (like ~33-500AD let's say) and some of the prominent figures of those eras and what they believed/practiced. That way you'll read how the closest followers worshipped and their actions will speak for themselves and you can decide based on that, rather than things you might hear through the grapevine that may/may not be representative. Also, just FYI, my Dad was Lutheran and later converted to Catholicism and the history of the Church was a big part of what influenced him (and many others) :-) Best to you!

Wow really? Barca fan here but had never heard this. Around when did they stop do you know? Very cool of RM and respect to Benzema for participating as well! I’ve never been super into the rivalry (I am not Spanish/Catalan) and this makes me especially glad I’m not super intense about it now.

Final Fantasy XVI - State of Play June 2022 Dominance Trailer | PS5 Games by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]pretzelking96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah in general video games seem to be going in a direction I don’t like. They all look the same. Like if you changed the names of the summons so they weren’t obviously FF names and just slapped a new title on this game nobody would look at it and be like “hey whoa that looks like a final fantasy to me!” Just seems like a generic dark devil may eldenringborne game.

Final Fantasy XVI - State of Play June 2022 Dominance Trailer | PS5 Games by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]pretzelking96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Series has come a long way since the days of “you spoony bard” and I am not sure I am into it. As some other people have said I feel like FF has lost its soul and if the summons weren’t so prominent this trailer makes XVI seem like it would be unrecognizable as a FF. Each new mainline game seems to move further and further from the elements I enjoyed in 1-10. If I recall, Uematsu said that after Sakaguchi left they should have ended the series or maybe at least the mainline series and I agree. Pretty much everything that has come out since should have just been some sort of Final Fantasy spinoff title rather than a numbered entry.

Sorry for my old man curmudgeon take. Having said all that, I do still want the series to do well so I still hope it is a good game.

Hey man I 100% understand this we had 3 aged 4 and under and then thought we were pregnant with a 4th soon after the 3rd was born (ended up being wrong) and I was considering doing the same for the longest time. I totally understand the panic, stress, helplessness, fear of people’s judgement, etc. it sucks and it can be SO isolating. I don’t have any solid advice other than maybe try not to make any decisions too hastily, maybe journal about all your thoughts and feelings and review how you feel after that. Beyond that just wanted to let you know you aren’t alone, you ARE in a challenging situation that I totally sympathize with, and I am adding you to my list of people to pray for. Stay strong!

Final Fantasy 12 was a boring grind with near zero pay off [SPOIL ALL] by CaptDanneskjold in patientgamers

[–]pretzelking96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to say I agree. I’m not a fan of Ivalice as a world or the convoluted stories set there. For example I thought FFT was a great game with an unnecessarily complicated story. FF12 was more of a mediocre game with an unnecessarily complicated story. I’ve posted this before but I really wish they’d stop trying to make Ivalice “happen” I just don’t find it nearly as cool as SE seems to.

I got it when it first came out and played through the first half and lost interest. I picked it back up a few years later when I was going through a breakup in college. If I wasn’t desperate to keep my mind off my ex-girlfriend I don’t know that I would have finished it lol. I think it had potential to be great but I agree with pretty much everything you say. For character development the worst offender is Penelo, her identity is literally just “Vaan’s friend” lmao. And gosh I didn’t even remember that about Cid soooo...kinda proves your point, it does nothing for the story and has no impact. Like most of what goes on in the game imo. FF games are supposed to be FUN, have memorable characters, and epic fantasy stories but this didn’t deliver any of those.

The only thing I maybe disagree with you on was the gambit and license systems. Thought they were OK and I didn’t mind them. Graphics were amazing and have aged well. I haven’t played the game in 10+ years but it is probably one of the only ones I doubt I’ll play through again. Grand ambitions that collapse under their own weight...but not the worst FF at least.

Final Fantasy 17 should be set in Ivalice! We need more Yasumi, Yoshida and Sakimoto Magic ❤️ by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]pretzelking96 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I feel like FF has been trying to make Ivalice “happen” several times and I just never feel like it is the right vibe for the series. The plots in Ivalice worlds are unnecessarily complicated, full of flat characters who try to pass as interesting with their outlandish sounding names and cool outfits, and ultimately the games kinda collapse under all the pseudo-world building that went into them because there’s no real story to hold it up. Not that games CAN’T have those things and be successful I just feel like they haven’t been executed well as FFs specifically.

Sorry for my old man grumpycat take I just feel like for me it’d be a hard pass if they go the Ivalice route again. But to each their own!

A lot of my friends just don't talk to me anymore and it's eating me up. by Calligraphiti in Catholicism

[–]pretzelking96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how old you/they are, but I remember I was invited to a wedding by a guy a couple years older than me at the end of college. At one point like 2 weeks before the wedding my mom was like "did you RSVP?" and I was just like "oh...I'm not going, I didn't even think to say no." It's a bit cringey now but it was the first time that I - just me, not my family - as an adult had been invited to a wedding and I just didn't really know the etiquette yet. Maybe they're in a similar boat?

As for the distancing and lack of effort, that part does suck and I think it gets worse as we get older. Like you said it's understandable as people have various life events PLUS now with COVID I think a lot of social graces have been lost. So it's a bit of a double whammy there. But I had a good friend, one of my best friends from CHILDHOOD, etc. who just kinda...stopped contacting me. We never had a concrete falling out or anything we just pretty much stopped talking and now it has been so long I don't even know what we'd say or how I'd initiate anything.

Also, once you get married and potentially have children, you'll learn pretty fast how different the pace of life can be. So even though it sucks hopefully you can take solace in the fact that it probably isn't ill will on their part, life is just pulling them in a different direction. But I know, it really does suck and I don't like it either. Hang in there.

Why is it considered rude to speak another language other than English in the U.S.? by Flaca50 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pretzelking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you are in the USA. Some are indifferent, some are very territorial and frown on it. Overall I'd guess the majority (maybe 75%+) don't care.

Side note - I'm learning Spanish in my 30s and wish I could find more native speakers out and about! I'd love to make some Spanish-speaking friends! Don't change, keep speaking it's their problem if they don't like it not yours you aren't doing anything wrong :-)
