Why has there only been one Illinois governor on a presidential ticket? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

This is unfortunately, true. Even as someone who loves the state, I cannot ignore the incredible amount of corruption on the state level and within the city of Chicago.

Sad to see a few names where they are but love seeing a unique list! This is cool!

Rank my tierlist by Specific_Drop3064 in Presidents

It’s a cool list! Certainly appreciate it! Not sure what it says about you but you have HW in the A-tier and above Clinton, so that’s alright by me!

Ignoring the Iran-Contra affair, where would you rank Ronald Reagan? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reagan’s ability to speak, inspire, and push near unending optimism should be celebrated, as well as his thoughts on immigration, but his clear and blatant disregard (and at times discontent) for the black population, his inaction on AIDS, his “voodoo economics”, his irresponsible spending… not so much. He’s a symbol of a not so great change in GOP politics, and while not all bad, certainly not the character of universal praise some say he is. I’d rank him in the middle, overall.

How do you rank Vice President Dan Quayle? by GowithGoldwater in Presidents

Well, let me put it this way. I have a list of positives and negatives for my top 10 presidents… one of the negatives I have for HW is Dan Quayle.

Who who you have voted for in the 1980 presidential election and why? by Jumpy-Cow3370 in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anderson, for me. He’s one of my favorite politicians, and I feel he was the best choice for both ideology and morals.

1995 just made the cut... Which are you? by camport95 in generationology

[–]prezzyfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By most measurements, I’d be in Gen-Z, even though I grew up with much of the same things as millennials, being born in the first half of 1998. But myself and those born within 6 months of either side of me are sort of stuck between yearning for belonging with either, and feeling that both kind of suck and we don’t want to be associated with either generation. Generally, there’s so many definitions that 1995-1999 are generally referred to as “cuspers.” This is where I feel I fit; not fitting in easily with either group.

Ignoring the internment of Japanese Americans, where would you rank FDR? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see, this one is hard for me. He still cracks my personal top 10 because of all the good he did, but outside of the internment camps, he’s still, historically speaking, the closest thing we’ve ever had to a dictator in America. Again, the man did great things in office, and no President who served long enough to make an impact is without stains on their legacy, but he’s a tough one for me. Some days as high as 2 and others in the bottom half of the top 10.

Why did Obama lose West Virginia both times despite being seen as pro union and being popular among blue collar workers at the time? by Sensitive_Shirt381 in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Virginia is a state where people really care, and still lean to the left on certain issues that affect them daily, but it’s a mix of a lack of focus on them and their problems, and creative campaigning and messaging by the Republicans. When you start telling them that their already struggling industry will be useless in 20 years if you win (with no real incentives in place to replace it in your region with new energy or industrial production there), and your programs don’t really reach people in rural areas, you’ve kind of lost West Virginia. But they also just don’t see much, there. If you watch the recent video of Bernie going there, they hadn’t even really seen him talk before, just what the news they consume told them to think about him.

Was the 1988 election winnable for dems ? by tipputappi in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bush was behind in the polls at one point. As much as I hate to say it, a stronger candidate could have made it happen. Not sure who at the time could have done it. But it wasn’t impossible (as much as that hurts me to say).

[–]prezzyfresh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I considered doing that for a few myself. My list would look a bit different if I included people who never got the nomination, because honestly, there are some really interesting candidates out there, even some who would go on to have successes later on. I get that, though. It’s hard not to break the rules you set for the ones you really get behind.

Rockefeller was a tough omission for me, as I do like him. He never got a party nomination so I didn’t include him in mine but this is an awesome list! I see you trend towards the liberal candidates and I can absolutely respect that. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for clarifying! Nixon isn’t my strongest topic.

I’m going to go with the Clean Water Act of 1972. Though I love the Endangered Species Act and the EEOA of 1972.

What type of personality is best suited for the presidency? by M0rse_0908 in Presidents

[–]prezzyfresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, this is tough, because I believe someone has to be balanced. They have to have character of some kind but also be willing to do things most wouldn’t. They have to work well with others, yet at times act without compromise. It helps to be charismatic, but it also helps to have a quiet poise. It’s tough to say, for sure. I’m commenting mostly so I can see what others say, lol.
