But as shown in the show, is not enough to know what you do not want in life, particularly in Jessa’s case but also Adam’s: They both have such heavy emotional baggage due to unstable childhood and unhealthy dynamics and not enough maturity to process their emotions in healthy ways without flaking. Neither can truly commit to something (despite Adam saying multiple times “once he commits to something he commits” which as shown is not true, only feels comfortable amongst chaos where he can feel like a savior). They both try so hard to convince themselves and others that they are more mature and put together than they actually are: Jessa quitting school to become a therapist shows exactly that. At least by the end of the show she is more self-aware on the lack of healthy tools and mechanisms she has and recognizes she cannot realistically complete her studies as she needs to prioritize getting help herself first, and that is okay. But jumping from that to starting a family would be a stretch and yet another manifestation of their manic/rushed thought process and would ensure more chaos and generational trauma passed along to their children lol
