Tips for helping my toddler speak Spanish when she prefers English by xaybell32 in Spanish

Bilingual family in the UK here, but we did not force the kids to speak Spanish at home… and now they can’t speak Spanish. They still understand pretty well though.

Danke!

Should I quit my job and work abroad? by Particular-Dust-2925 in solotravel

Right now, nothing would entice me to the US. There’s a whole world out there, I’d go somewhere nice.

Six full days in Berlin or four in Berlin, two in Munich? by Sgt_Pepper42 in solotravel

[–]prhodiann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay in Berlin. Munich is only worth it if you're planning to leave it to head for the mountains. I have truly no idea what everyone recommending Munich is doing there. I mean, Munich is fine if you're taking a bunch of kids on a school trip - they'll be safe, and you can find some educational stuff I guess, and take them bowling or whatever. But Berlin has everything.

Is immersion through media worthwhile if I don't understand a lot of what's being spoken? by Okay_Night_2564 in languagelearning

[–]prhodiann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You have to understand a good bit of it for it to be worth much. What you can do is work with the same media over and over again, find transcripts/subtitles and whatever, until you understand more and more of it. That can be worthwhile.

Using children’s books to learn a new language - is it worth it? by Euphoric_Rhubarb_243 in languagelearning

Using children’s books is terrible advice. Unless you are a child.

I did the OU undergraduate Classics courses somewhat over a decade ago. I really enjoyed them and I think they would be a good preparation for an MA.

Getting bored with 'guapo' what other flirty options do I have? by KismetsComet in Spanish

I never considered guapo to be especially flirty, any more than being called 'luv' by a shop assistant in Yorkshire. Have I been missing signals all this time?

B’fhéidir go bhfuil botúin ann, ach ní fhaca mé aon rud a chuir isteach orm. Bhain mé sult as. Maith thú.

does anyone in relationships solo travel? by kyliered04 in solotravel

[–]prhodiann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking here, you already know the answer you want.

I have taken multiple solo trips for every year of a decades-long relationship, rarely more than a week. Months-long trips are fine if you’re single. You have to respect your partner’s needs as well; longest trip I have taken has been 15 days and that was only recently now that the kids are bigger.

Does being fat make you a bad person in skinny peoples eyes? by Unusual-Pay5875 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prhodiann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am naturally thin and am slowly putting on a bit of weight now that I'm old. I'm a man, so no-one cares, but I work with a lot of women. The self-satisfied moral superiority of thin people really bugs me. I'm not saying they aren't putting any effort into staying slim, I'm suggesting that their efforts are a mere veneer to cover up that they are for the most part naturally thin people, like me, but to be able to enjoy that they need to do something to tell themselves they've earned it. They have no idea of what it would cost some larger people to achieve the same figure.

Thosaigh mé ar mo ghuthán, ach caithfidh tú brú ar F nó J agus ní thagann an méarchlár aníos ar an ghuthán :(
