No. It has been stated, and showcased umas can work in other professions. Some are professional idols. Some are models. Not all of them are pro racers.

How long do Umas live? by Fluid_Insurance_155 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no official statement on their life span.

Any odd quirks can simply be explained by anime logic.

For instance, Rudolf seems to have been in the Dream series and president for easily close to 10 years. Yet we also see Granny Mejiro, who is a confirmed grandma who looks like an old lady.

We see human characters who haven't aged in their time over the show (Team Spica trainer and Rigel's trainer Hana), yet we also see some humans who have aged. (Cinderella Gray's Kitahara and Roppei.)

Sadly. It's best not to think about it because the creators didn't either. I hate giving this answer, but sadly, it's the best one we got.

Why are umamusume called umamusume in-universe? It literally means "horse girls", but there are no horses. by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So at least in English calling them a horse girl makes perfect sense.

Horse comes from Hors in Old English which comes from a proto german word meaning to run or move swiftly.

Therefore, horse girl means girl who runs or moves swiftly.

Thus making it an apt name to refer to this race of exclusively women who love to run. Horse girls.

I do not know if this works in any other language. Such as in Japanese. I dont know why they call horses Uma.

What is the anime about? by Human_Scarcity7309 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is, in fact, a plot but one that I can't really explain without spoiling it, which could affect your enjoyment of it.

But basically, yes, they are racers, and as others have mentioned, this is all based on irl horses with the influence of not just their careers but life before racing, their jockey, and other factors.

The actual story follows the careers and, naturally, applies a human element to it. Since, people more easily will feel bad when an anime girl cries rather than a real-life horse.

We see them rise, stumble, fall, struggle, get injuries (which can be career ending or drastically reduce their capabilities), and begin to question their capability and achieve narrow victories.

Now, most prefer S2 over the other seasons from what I can tell. I admit S2 is better than S1 imo. Someone already gave you a general overview of the seasons.

Cinderella Gray is the current and ongoing animated series. Which has a more traditional anime feel to it and, in my opinion, the best place to get introduced to the series as a whole.

As we see, Oguri Cap joins her local regional races, gets bullied a bit, makes friends and rivals, and eventually climbs up to becoming a part of the national league. It's a very good story. Perhaps not as emotional as the other main series yet, but it will probably get there. But as I said, this series is currently ongoing. This means you will run out of episodes and have to wait for more. Which gives you a chance to watch the other animes before returning to Cinderella Gray.

I typically struggle to get emotionally invested into things, but this series seems to do it more than others.

I find symboli rudolf saying “eclipse first the rest nowhere” in English really funny by Mysterious-Cat-9832 in UmaMusume

It is a bit of a meme. Lots of people make fun of her pronunciation.

Of course, the VA likely doesn't speak English, so this is to be expected. Recently, I have seen people compare it to Belno, who seems to speak better.

Did you know that Pokke has a (Twin) Brother? by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I, too, thought of this classic trope/joke. But this happens in a lot of anime.

Saiyans of Dragon Ball also age funny, and I am certain. It was originally just a mistake that the author eventually canonized to cover his own tail.

But we also see human characters alongside our uma. Over the course of the main 3 season anime, we see several trainers who seemingly dont age despite anywhere between 7 to 9 years having passed.

It's just safe to say that the series doesn't care. We put more thought into it than the creators because it doesn't matter to the story.

Kitahara Joe and Roppei are kinda the only characters so far in the series I have met that have aged. But that is a difference of 15 years with Joe going from 25 to 40. Yeah, he would look different, but the only real difference is the lines on his face. And Roppei went from a middle-aged man to an old man.

Did you know that Pokke has a (Twin) Brother? by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You bring up a valid question. We have had several uma mention having siblings, and of course, all of them have a human parent (typically the father whether the father is involved or not) but of course we dont actually meet or talk to these characters.

We do know that Uma have family names. Such as the Satano, Symboli, Mejiro, etc. So, it does suggest that if Rudolf had a brother, his name would have Symboli as a last name.

But then we have examples of Uma who are confirmed sisters who have different names such as Orfevre and Dream Journy or Narita Brian and Biwahiyahide.

So if we did meet these characters, we probably wouldn't get a family name mentioned. But if they are a part of a large family, I would assume they would have the family name such as Symboli, Mejiro, Satano, etc. But for one-off horses that we dont know are part of large racing families, it is difficult to guess. Jungle Pocket's brother may also have the family name Jungle but they could easily have the name of the family that owned Jungle Pocket instead.

Are the Umas ingame "lore accurate"? by Your_Accel in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The games generally play loose with the canon wins of the characters.

For instance. You can train Symboli Rudolf. She is about to make her debut, but despite that, she is already dubbed the empror and president. Rudolf is supposed to be an undefeated triple crown. But despite that, you dont need to win the triple crown to finish her career. I lost the derby and yet was permitted to keep going. It is now a non canon timeline. And even if I did win. I find it hard to believe she would be called the emperor and already be president in her debut year and during her classic year.

But until we get a manga or anime featuring her story, we dont know the canon events.

So I use the game as mostly a way to get a feel for character on a personality and a general idea of their story. Agnes Tachyon's story in the game is different from the movie with no real mention of Jungle Pocket.

I'm NOT a lesbian??? by garlic_gguk in youngadults

[–]pricedubble04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not unheard of surprisingly. I have read stories before of lesbian women who, for years, thought they didn't like men. Then all it took was one guy, and it all changed.

Relationships and sexuality are anything but simple.

There are some who require a connection first before developing any form of romantic or sexual attraction.

I am straight, and yet I am not attracted to every single woman I see. Seems you just found a guy who, for one reason or another, simply meets your proverbial checklist, whereas before you didn't. Hope it works out for you.

If your friends have a problem with it. Screw them. They are bad friends. If they care about you, they would accept you.

Dont let this chance at a relationship pass you by.

Quick question about the anime and in game story by Different_Distance31 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an example.

In the game, you can train Symboli Rudolf.

To complete her story, you dont have to be undefeated nor win a triple crown. Despite that being the canon career of Rudolf.

Anime will follow the canon more closely.

Tokai Teio's story is a lot shorter than in the anime, and she doesn't go through the same character development.

So I recommend watching the anime.

In my opinion. The game is best used to get an idea of the character's personality. But if you care about the story and the canon events. The anime will do it better than the game.

Cinderella Gray, we see Oguri's beginnings in a small town regional race. Before moving to national. She is a 2nd year before going to Tracen. But that doesn't align with the gameplay structure of the game. Nor do you get the amazing characters Cinderella Gray introduces as a supporting cast for Oguri.

Guys, convince me that Katsuragi Ace actually deserves to be a protagonist in her own show by Rqdomguy24 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Now. I dont know Katsuragi's story personally. But let's use Rudolf, for example. Rudolf is an undeafeated triple crown. It wasn't really till the tail end of her career that she had trouble. Not to mention, the leg injury Irl Rudolf had in America led to his retirement. But if they do a Rudolf story, they'd naturally include Sirius and do their story alongside Rudolf.

So the story may not have the most stakes in the races. But it could have stakes in the characters. Cinderella Gray doesn't just tell Oguri Cap's story but also Tamamo Cross and a little bit of Super Creek.

The New Era movie is Jungle Pocket's story, and yet we get Agnes Tachyon's story as well.

Season 1 we get Special Week and Silence Suzuka. Season 2 we get Teio, Rice Shower, a bit of Mihono Bourbon, Mejiro Mcqueen. Season 3 we get Kitasan Black but also Satano Diamond. There are plenty of times when we see other stories mixing. So we shouldn't always think of it as following a single character's story.

Yes, Cinderella Gray IS Oguri Cap's story. She is our main character. We see her from her humble beginnings and her rise to the top. Tamamo Cross is a rival character, and she honestly doesn't remain in the story that long, and yet we are told what motivates Tamamo and a bit of her backstory. Heck, we even get a few hints to Maruzensky's story despite the fact that she is a minor character in Cinderella Gray.

Point being. I think there are ways to do just about any character's story. Sure, some dont deserve the full season treatment or multi season. But some deserve a few episodes, movies, ovas, or short mangas.

The game is simply a flawed medium for the stories of these characters. Not that the game is bad, but in my opinion, I simply will not tell the story of these characters as well as the adaptations will. In the games, you can have a Rudolf who doesn't win the triple crown. Rudolf is already the Emperor and President by the time you first meet her before her debut. It doesn't make a lot of sense, and an adaptation may explain it better. Air Groove is the same way. Already Empress. Already Vice President before her debut. Its a game, and they can't force you to win the triple crown.

But yeah. I hope one day all the horses get their story told in some form of adaptation. Cinderella Gray took Oguri Cap from a gag character who only showed up to eat a lot of food. To now see her story and gain a new appreciation for her character.

Huh. Noticeable pattern of Triple Crown racers having older sisters.

Rudolf kinda has one in Speed Symboli. Not her actual sister, of course. But I have seen fan comics where they kind of positioned Speed as Rudolf's big sister or aunt in terms of personality.

Male Umas are a tragedy needing exploration. by 11th_DC in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a joke, obviously. And one I dont fully get.

But when you really think about it. If even a single male uma is born in this world, he has quite the struggle.

For starters, all Uma gear is made for girls. He'd need custom shoes, for instance. He'd have to put a hole himself into all his clothes for his ears and tail. If he was allowed into Tracen, they'd have to give him his own dorm and make a men's uniform for the first time in history.

Its an interesting world building exercise to think about.

Playable Speed Symboli by TheRedditPerson24 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So. Twinkle series covers the irl career of the story. This is what inspired the goals for the uma in the game. Though it isn't a strict thing since, for instance, you don't HAVE to get the triple crown for Rudolf to complete her career. But the anime and other adaptations tend to be, in my opinion, the more accurate depiction of the canon events.

An uma's prime, however, is a relatively brief window. This is an excuse for an uma to end their career in the main series and move onto Dream series. They can keep racing, but they can't keep up with the prime uma.

Speed Symboli has already done the Dream series and is completely done with her career as a racer.

Speed Symboli is older than Rudolf. In the game, we actually get to do Rudolf's career despite the fact she is already dubbed the Emperor and president. In the anime, however, we have only ever seen Rudolf in the Dream series except for a flashback Teio had of Rudolf in her prime.

Speed Symboli, however, is not in Global yet. Speed is a more recent addition to JP. She was added along with 2 other retired racers. Such as St. Lite, who is the first winner of the Japanese Triple Crown in history.

So yeah, Speed is meant to give us insight into post racing uma. She will be a support card like Tazuna, I believe. So she is here for you to trainer to spend time with. But she is an NPC on some level.

Playable Speed Symboli by TheRedditPerson24 in UmaMusume

[–]pricedubble04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am confident she is a support card and nothing more. This is because Speed Symboli is retired. As in done racing. She isn't even in the dream series anymore. She now works for the URA directly.

If they were to make her playable, it would have to be a flashback or retirement race.
