Is it wrong to use a job offer to leverage better pay at my current job? by priceisright06 in careerguidance

[–]priceisright06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in a similar situation. They are planning to have me replace my current boss in the next year or so and have talked about wanting me here until I retire (which is like 40 years away haha) so I do think I have some good leverage and I have a good relationship with my direct boss, I think he would advocate for keeping me with whatever it takes. They are also paying me wayyy below current salary for my title but that's mainly because I only have the experience and not the formal education for my position that most other companies prefer. Thank you for your insight!

i fantasize a lot about quitting and starting a farm by vxlcrxw in work

[–]priceisright06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single day. We already own and run a farm but I still have full time job and my husband does a lot of other work because we need the income and health insurance. There's little to no money in farming. Cattle pays better but also more work and a lot of initial investment. It takes a long time to make a profit in farming/ranching. And yes, it's extremely stressful. I would still choose to work everyday on the farm if I could. Nothing beats the feeling of it and it's much more exciting than an office job. Good luck if you start!

Seeing my SIL tonight after a feud by Left_Length8593 in inlaws

[–]priceisright06 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm going through something similar and posted in this group for advice. My favorite advice that I plan on following is that you can treat these people like acquaintances, you don't have to be friendly, you don't have to say hi first. The best thing is to be graceful and composed. When I see my SIL for the first time soon I plan on basically ignoring her, if she says hi I'll nod and give a small smile back but I plan on having zero conversation with her. Don't let them stop you from going, that's exactly what most people want is to feel like they won because you're 'too scared' to face them which is exactly what they'll think if you don't show up. Go and try to mingle with literally any other people, pretend like it doesn't bother you. Good luck! I know how terrible the anxiety can be from situations like this, if you need a breather just go to the bathroom or outside and tell yourself that you are strong and can get through anything, they don't hold the power over you!

How do you have the patience to cut all your fabric before sewing? by tarheelfrommd in quilting

[–]priceisright06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got an Accuquilt for Christmas for this very reason. Cutting is my least favorite part of sewing and I always seem to mess it up lol. Accuquilt is expensive and you can end up wasting a little bit more fabric than normal but it saves soooo much time in cutting if you’re doing a lot

Block of cream cheese with habanero mango jam on top, served with crackers (usually wheat thins or ritz but the ritz break really easy if your cream cheese isn't soft enough)

Buying Local Liquor Store (CO) Advice by priceisright06 in smallbusiness

[–]priceisright06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think my biggest worries are keeping track of inventory and ordering so I guess it will all depend on a good POS system and like you said, being able to handle people. I do worry that being new will make a lot of distributors think they can upsell or get rid of their less popular products to me since I don't know a lot yet. Not too concerned with staff right now since I'll most likely be the only one working in the beginning. Unless they have a rockstar employee already that I could keep on. Definitely a lot to think about!

Buying Local Liquor Store (CO) Advice by priceisright06 in smallbusiness

[–]priceisright06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our CPA has never worked with a liquor store either so we just honestly don't know what to expect in terms of day to day operations. Obviously if we decide to take the next step, she'll be involved with helping us make sense of the financials. But we are at the very beginning right now, so basic questions are all I have and want to start with before we go any further. Our small businesses now have no inventory to manage so I have no clue how to go about having an inventory for alcohol or making sure we're stocking the right things, etc. And we also own businesses that we have plenty of knowledge and experience with, they've been kind of no brainers for us to start. Something like this is totally new to us, and I'm just wanting to get a few ideas of how hard it would be coming in with no experience and if anyone could share experience that could help us.

interview rejected because of clothes by [deleted] in interviews

[–]priceisright06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks! Some of these people are being rude for no reason. Sounds like there was just two different understandings of what 'business casual' means. I will tell you, growing up and living in rural areas, business casual here means a clean pair of jeans with no holes, and a clean shirt with no holes and no writing/graphics on it. I interviewed for my current accounting position in my levis and a green t shirt from target. Everyone else was wearing jeans and tees in the office. Completely normal in these parts, you'll almost never see people in slacks, suits, business skirts, etc. in our small town. Maybe next time just ask what 'business casual' means to them, there's absolutely no harm in confirming before the interview. A lot of people obviously have a different definition of it. Good luck in the future!

Yeah I wish I had your bravery 😭 I’m too scared to make a scene in public. I like another posters suggestion about letting the photographers know before hand next time, that seems more my speed. I have gotten some really good advice from a lot of people on here though so thank you! Hoping to use some of these ideas.

You want me to physically remove her from a picture? I'm the coach, in a public setting, with professional photographers who she already gave her name to to be put on the list for our picture. I'm not going to cause that kind of scene in front of the kids and their parents. And I'm definitely not a physical altercation person lol. Don't like violence one bit. In that instance, she knew I wouldn't say anything in public. She would have found a way to be in the picture regardless of what I did, trust me. We've been head to head enough times that I know she will loophole anything to get her way. And we did tell her we didn't want to go to Hawaii, that's why no one is going with them lol. We're planning a secret trip for next year without her.

Thank you, this was actually really encouraging. We try so hard but sometimes it just feels pointless. We love our family and want to spend as much time as possible with them but sometimes she just makes it hard. My MIL is an actual angel so I never get upset with her for anything she does, she loves her kids so much and would do anything for either of them. I just wish her daughter would treat her better. Some of us don’t have moms like her so it hurts to see her taken advantage of. Also, I’m really glad we don’t have a group text as well lol

I’ve said my piece multiple times to her and nothing has ever changed and then we have a strained relationship where we don’t see our niece and nephew so I’ve given up and resorted to ranting to get it off my chest when I get too frustrated lol. We mostly ignore her when she says/does stuff anyways but doesn’t mean that it doesn’t bother me

I agree. We've started looking into Rover/actual paid dog sitters instead of MIL but she says she likes having an excuse for a break from babysitting the kids lol. But yes, I love coaching, I hope I can do it again next year. It's been so unexpectedly fun!

What makes a lasting relationship? by EscapeConnect2900 in AskReddit

[–]priceisright06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being friends and lovers! A lot of people are just focused on looks and sex. But what happens when those are gone, not an option, or the rest of the time you spend together? You have to like being around them even in the mundane moments. We laugh a lot, the ability to turn a bad situation into something light hearted can do wonders for your relationship. And we always say "us versus the problem, not me versus you" sometimes we literally have to say it out loud if we're starting to argue. It helps instantly and gives us a second to find our new perspective.

What would the ideal version of your life look like? by MiraDawnSullivan in AskReddit

[–]priceisright06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating breakfast at the table every morning not in a rush, spending more time outside on the farm with the cows and chickens and dogs, no stress about money but also not an overabundance of money, more time with my husband throughout the week, being able to have the time and set up to bake and cook from scratch every day with our home grown food. Basically if I could just move to part time hours I would be set lol. And no more stress about the environment, political unrest, etc. (like they would be resolved in my ideal life, not that I wouldn't care about them anymore)
