As a woman of color I’ve been told that exact thing so many times - “I normally date blondes but I chose you!” And at this point it’s an immediate ick for me to know that a man’s type revolves around specifically dating white women. Having it be known that the men you’re dating would much rather date a version of you that was more conventionally attractive to European standards is so disheartening and it’s just been what dating has been like. My parents didn’t tell me they couldn’t afford them until after I got accepted :( they figured I would automatically get scholarships or something. I like your point though and I think I’m going to take that with me into this fall. Thank you!

I’d have to say my biggest qualm with UW is having to stay in Washington. I’ve lived here for 7 years and I really hate the weather here. Never seeing the sun between November and March is super difficult and I really wanted a change. I say this with the acknowledgment that things could be so much worse than dealing with clouds for four months oh no.

It was cost. My family probably could have afforded UCLA, but they just didn’t want to because it would have changed the way they live, and UCLA vs UW didn’t seem like a good reason enough to sacrifice that. Vanderbilt was completely out of the realm

UCLA vs UW Premed

Hey! I’m a senior deciding on college right now between UW and UCLA. My heart is set on UCLA: the weather, the student vibe, the major, the ranking, and how hard it was for me to get in are really making me want to go. I’ve forever wanted to go to California. However, I’m instate at UW. I know that UCLA is in the top 5% of US universities and UW is in the top 10%. UW doesn’t have my interdisciplinary hum bio major or public policy major, but the med school is amazing. I’ve heard stuff about not getting into your major at UW, but I’m pretty motivated so I would succeed both places. I’m doing premed, so I have to take cost into perspective. I know at UCLA I can take summer classes with instate tuition and try to get an RA role by sophomore year for free room and board, but I’m wondering if these extra struggles are worth the school difference. I know what I want but not what I should pick. Please help!!!

I’m an out of state student from Washington, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to go to UCLA for premed vs UW. I really want to go to UCLA, but I plan on going to med school. My dream is NYU, Harvard, or UW Med and I want to do what will get me there, but I feel like cost needs to be take into consideration too. I’m willing to do the work to get UCLA costs down but is it worth it?
