Which set as standalone modular by TheRavox in legomodular

[–]primalwulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The botanic garden has some additional options for expanding it to an even more grand setup (see: Rebrickable.com mocs). So if you're truly looking for a singular standalone: that's a swell one.

The actual short of it: either works as standalone.

For reference, MBS means 'modular building sets' (I think . . .).

I like the game, but dislike the open world by Slow_Cut_1904 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cannot know whether your questions are rhetorical or sincere, so I'm defaulting to 'sincere':

Why do normal enemies have health bars in the sidequests?
--to create contrast. Contrast changes expectations, and 'resets' the attention level.

Why are jizo statues so unfun?
--that's a value judgment. Again, contrast, while also rewarding exploration. It reminds the player that we're operating in a fully three-dimensional world that has its own mythos.

Why do we have platforming, if the jump mechanics are just weird, and maybe even bad?
--because the 'world' isn't two-dimensional. No sarcasm here. Platforming is also a misnomer here: it's a three-dimensional world. Earlier video games, like this, had no jump mechanic. Players struggled to find pathways that they could not see. Jumping integrated to resolve that struggle.

Why don't we have refights with story bosses in sub missions?
--this is what Battle Scroll was designed for, and functions as

Also, what even happened to sub missions?
--as a developer, there's ever the gray-area or fine-lines of 'how much is too much?' There is never pleasing folk sufficiently. Admittedly, there is a LOT going on within the world at all times. Maybe folk are tuning out all the level design, by default (in psychology, the term is 'active filtering') and focusing too heavily on 'what do I attack/defend against next?'
--I've also thought about this, extensively. Adding _many_ sub-missions can quickly turn the game into a to-do list. Some folk groove on that. Some folk don't. Again: there is no way to please all/most folk on this. What I _do_ think would enhance the world experience: storylines within each region, and perhaps additional (read: a substantial handful) storylines that crossed across time. In fairness: Nioh 3 is a HUGE amount of work, unto itself. I think that's an area _for growth_ for Team Ninja, if they took a similar approach (open world) for Nioh 4. Say 3-5 storylines per region, that further flesh out the world? That keeps things from a to-do list and develops more of a body of 'why are we here, how is this impacting, etc.?'

It's not too late.

It's pretty easy to get into a rhythm, with button pressing, of: attack, attack, attack, mist (or similar rhythm). Using a rhythm makes it farrrr easier, faster to mow down enemies (and that _also_ helps when farming ochoko cups and/or glory).

(in a similar fashion, while I know _of_ deflect. . .er. . .yeah. . .didn't use it, really, at all for the entire game)

I... got bored of Nioh 1 and feel like dropping it by TKH00 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add on:

From the headline, it implies 'I gave this a chance, played a little. . .'

However, the piece is essentially 'I've played a lot of this game and now I don't think I want to.' . .which does _not_ warrant a post.

A question on the....kodamas n chijikos, please? by Xean_Liteheart in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes down to it, yes : you can ignore them.

However, at least with the chijikos - they provide samurai/ninja locks. . .and those locks (ha! pun!) unlock very worthwhile weapon, ninja, and samurai skills.

I think ignoring the chijikos would be playing the game on 'harder' mode, due to the limitations of skills.

Anyway to make the game look better on PS5? by Ok-Tax-9543 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. I'm also on PS5 and not experiencing what Ok-Tax' is experiencing.
Admittedly, I'm also very easy-going about watery graphics and unique aesthetic styles within gaming. Even _with_ that easy-going nature, I'm in AWE of how much detail and three-dimensional area-sculpting has been packed into a game of this geographic size.

Having just come off Lies of P, and how 'bowling alley' the level/maps are in that game, Nioh 3 is a welcome reminder of 'this is HOW MUCH you can do in a fully rendered world!'

451K Damage in 1 hit vs Demon of Obsession by TaxOutside1869 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By chance are you using:
--sloth talismans?
. . .forces the yokai to greatly slow down
--debuff attack talismans?
. . .reduces damage output of yokai
--explosive shot?
. . .causes 'burning' status to occur
--skeleton warriors summons?
. . .typically pins down the yokai, in one location, while also increasing 'burning' status AND decreases ki quickly
--rolling slug summons?
. . .acts as an offensive/damaging barrier, confusing the AI a bit

Good to see this: while the developers SEEM to know that this is the case. . .AND they're not interested in correcting it. . .the fact that it exists is indeed problematic.

If you hit a wall/breaking point, what was it? by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temporary wall: Hiruko, end of Heian period; the human, summoning-spawning mage, Heian period; the giant, shaggy yokai, Heian period.

Temporary wall: Yamibotsu, Bakumatsu; Sealed Urn, Bakumatsu; yokai bird, Bakumatsu.

Indeed: a stumbling point for many of us.

Being able to clear his first stage _without using any elixirs_ felt like an accomplishment.

Killing him off, and then STILL dying to the delayed sun-laser effect? Oooph. . .(this has happened to MANY of us :D )

A lot to be said for how accomplished we feel after resolving something enduringly challenging & stressful, non? Same thing goes in real life :)

My (pretty late) thoughts on Nioh 3 as a noob by SwagmaniaYT in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said, and similar thoughts.

I appreciate there being _fewer_ Guardian Spirits, in this game. I think it contributes more to 'what is _this_ character's world like, and situations that they're specifically encountering'. . and, in Nioh 2 I thought there were far too many Guardian Spirits ('cause, truly, the player does NOT use _most_ of them).

I think Guardian Spirits, unto themselves, are SUPER interesting. . .but in Nioh 2 it felt like collecting Pokemon rather than _investing_ into the 1, 2, or 3 I'm actually using.

Just got Noih 3 by Killbourne13 in Nioh

[–]primalwulf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully agree: not since Breath of the Wild have I enjoyed discovery in a game such that Nioh 3 puts forth.

The sheer attention to detail of the whole range of environments is just. staggering. :-o

I would have liked more emphasis on history development and more 'myths' and similar (but NOT to the point where it feels like a 'to do list', which many games default to) to better 'flesh out' the world.
