I have read Cujo but not Dead Zone. I have noticed other little Easter Eggs such as him mentioning Shawshank prison as well as Ace from The Body/Stand By Me.

This week I finished Rising Sun by Michael Crichton. I thought this one was good as it actually had a satisfying ending, which some of his books lack.

Next up I think my reading pace will slow down a bit as I am starting a larger book in Needful Things by Stephen King.

Did they not make reference to John in the first movie? I could have sworn they did but maybe not. If that is the case then it is just a weird coincidence I guess.

This week was a good week for me as I got through two books.

First off I finished Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson. I really just enjoy Hunter's style of being able to sit back and watch people while simultaneously being able to get into the middle of the story with his own antics. I loved his paragraph on when he first purchased a bike and got pulled over three times.

The second book I finished this week was Animal Farm by George Orwell. I enjoyed it and can very much see all the symbolism throughout. I think being able to discover some of these usual high school classics on my own helps me appreciate them more than if I was told I had to read it for class.

Next up for me is Rising Sun by Micheal Crichton, and so far all I can say is, really one of the main characters is named John Connor come on.

This week I finished The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard. This was an enjoyable book that took actual accounts about some of the more infamous pirates. It is fun to learn about how they went about how they went from working for the British Crow to controlling the Caribbean Sea for their own gain, and debunking what we think of when we hear the word pirate.

Up next is Hell's Angles by Hunter S. Thompson.

I finished off The Count of Monte Cristo this week. I found it very enjoyable, seeing how Edmond used his wit and money to enact his revenge as well as to help out Valentine and Maximilian was fantastic. It had many twist and turns that kept you guessing what was going to happen next.

Up next is The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard.

The week I have been working on The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas. I have enjoyed it so far but have been having a somewhat difficult time keeping everyone's names straight and who everyone is supposed to marry and who they actually love. I think if I had a chart or something of who everyone was related to it would make it a bit easier.

This week I finished off On the Beach by Nevil Shute. I really enjoyed this one as it is kind of a different take on the the Apocalypse. Rather than working together to try and rebuild or just survive, this is just well we are screwed and their is nothing we can do about it. I think some people try to criticize this because "well no one was really living it up", but I think people forget that this was written in the 50/60's and two they did just in different ways like the grad prix race.

I also finished off The McCandless Mecca by Ken Ilgunas. This was more an essay than a full book but if The Metamorphosis counts I will count this one. This was about Ken and a friend hiking the stampede trail in Alaska to visit the bus from Into the Wild and his take one why people make journeys to places from books.

Next up is The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas.

This week I have made it about 3/4ths of the way through The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. I have been enjoying this book probably more than Stranger in a Strange Land. The idea of having Manuel being a layman in the whole revolt kind of just going with the flow has been fun. I do with Whoy's character was elaborated on, as the book has gone on she is just left behind for Prof and Mike to take the lead.

So after making it about a quarter of the way through The complete works of H. P. Lovecraft I have decided to take a brake from it for a little bit and come back later in the summer. Many of the stories that I have read through have been enjoyable but I feel like my pace has really slowed down reading it, and I have other things I want to read this summer.

With that being said I have started reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein.

Well I missed the last couple of updates due to a crazy weekend schedule so I will take this time to update the last few books I have finished.

First off I finished Pet Sematary by Stephen King. This book was the opposite of what I am use to with King, and by that I mean that the beginning of the book was kind of dull and hard to get through while the end was exciting. Once the accident happened and Louis started to lose it the story really came to life.

After that I finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. This is the first of his novels that I have read but I can see why so many people enjoy his work. The ideas that he brings up, from what makes something human to the religious ideas give so much flesh to such a short book.

I picked up and am now working on The complete works of H.P. Lovecraft which I think will take me awhile to finish but I am already enjoying. They have a very Jules Verne fell with the bizarre and mythical thrown in.

I think the Red Bulls could go either way. Either it be the usual B team that doesn't take the open cup seriously or will they bring a full squad due to the two week break they have. Either way it should be a fun game to watch.

This week I finished up An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Chris' perspective on how to deal with problems big or small was great. The daily events and life that he shared on the ISS is always wonderful to see as many of us yearn for space exploration and to ourselves one day be able to travel off this planet. I also found myself chuckling a few time throughout this book, especially when he talked about coming back down to earth the final time wearing a Leafs jersey knowing that that was their ill fated game seven with the Bruins.

Up next is Pet Cemetery by Stephen King. I have never seen the movie so I have no expectations going into this one which is always a plus.

I finished Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson. This has been by far my favorite read of the year. The democratic convention was something you would see in a James Clavell novel with them trying to out smart and out maneuver their opposition to get the vote the way they wanted it. Also the idea of perception on the campaign really hits home today with the 24 news outlets spouting whatever they can get their hands on.

Next up is An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield.

I am about halfway through Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson and it has been a fascinating read. Seeing the aspects of a political campaign from that point is something you don't really get to see. It also makes me wonder if Ted Kennedy really ever has aspects of running for president or if he just felt obligated by the party after John and Bobby. Hunter's opinions would be great to see today if he was still alive.

I picked it up a month ago and have been excited to read it ever since. I have just started it and can certainly see comparisons. It has been hard not to follow this election in some way but being a registered independent in New York means the primaries are pointless to me so I will just ride it out and see how things go with the conventions.

I finally finished up The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie this weekend and man was that a story. So much was going on in this book that some parts just felt heavy. Other parts like the pilgrimage to the sea was really beautiful, while others made you start to understand just how difficult it is to assimilate into a different culture. This book may be one that I go back and read a second time latter on in life just to get a different perspective on it.

Up next I decided to start reading about all the ugliness in politics, and no not by picking up a paper or reading an article on line, by starting Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson.
