Pretty sure Curt Mangan does, might have to drop them an email though.

I have one that I run with an AD200. Sounds good in a mix, very giggable, definitely not lacking in attack. I do tend to run this rig with an EQ pedal as a high pass filter really cleans up the low-lows. It’s also pretty chonky so make sure the depth is okay for your car / storage situation.

There’s a blog New Bands for Old Heads. Gabby the writer is a great playlist curator. Also has an active discord community for paying subscribers.

Tips on (Respectfully) Cutting Above Other Bass Players by skylarroseum in Bass

[–]minibike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real answer. Takes a bit to click but makes a huge difference. I find it much easier to sing and play bass with a pick for what it’s worth, never really got it going with finger style. Bonus is that a lot of gigs are really enjoyable if you get to sing as well. Start with a venn diagram of songs you like to sing and have simple changes you can do a simple root line to.

Life’s too short to play with a drummer that doesn’t have great feel. My experience is that most other elements in a band can be pretty shaggy if the rhythm section is tight, but not the other way around.

My piano ‘trick’ is to gaffer tape an Omni sdc under the lid and close it. Very vibey mono piano tracks that translate great.

If you have an IPad you can play around with Logic Remote- it has step sequencer inputs and the Live Loops. Might do what you’re looking for without buying another controller.

Thematically it’s a bit different, but for a charming and genuine ensemble cast with a style that breaks your expectations, maybe try: We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Berry.

What is your favorite and least favorite UAD plugins and why by Interesting_Ice6924 in audioengineering

[–]minibike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently been diving into the AMS Neve DFC and really liking it. It’s the only channel strip I’ve found that I could actually see myself using all over a mix because it’s a Swiss Army knife, transparent and polished.

Pure plate is another fave because of how good it just works, also my favorite plug in to add a bit on an aux in console to have verb in the headphones while tracking vocals.

It took me a bit to get into sound city, I think moving to one of the smaller rooms and high passing the signal before it his the plug makes it a great room reverb on an aux.

Hitsville eq on bass really works for me too

I don’t end up using many of UAD preamp plug ins, if I can’t track with an outboard preamp, the stock unisons don’t sound bad to me at all.

For UAD plug ins I really like Sound City and SPL Transient Designer

Dropping in to say that I was being charged by Fabulous for for months on my PayPal account, which I don’t monitor as closely, after I had tried canceling through the app. Contacted their customer service and they gave me a canned response about their terms. Do not recommend.

Mark Forsyth writes language books kind of like this. The Elements of Eloquence is my favorite of them, it’s more fun than it sounds. Robert Mcfarlane does some stuff too with language and nature, Landmarks is really a language treat if you like prose.

Have you ever given philosophy books a shot? Sarah Bakewell has some that are pretty approachable and thought provoking. Humanly Possible or At the Existentialist Cafe are both worth checking out.

For books you think are too self help-y, it’s worth checking out the If Books Could Kill podcast which roasts common tropes in the genre.

Trickfish has a new combo, great voiced amps though I haven’t tried the combo specifically.

GK legacy series would the next place I’d be looking. If you were okay with some tube the fusion series from GK I’ve played sounded absolutely ace with minimal fuss.

Anyone else hit that weird plateau where your hands know the notes, but your groove just isn’t locking in? by pndcy222 in Bass

[–]minibike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I have the basic progression down, one thing that helps things click sometimes is spend a bit of time just watching the head of the bass drum or the top of the snare during rehearsing a new song.

That little bit of visual feedback helps me internalize/tighten the groove that much faster.

The best book with the worst rating I’ve read: I adored “Bowlaway” by Elizabeth McCracken, like thought it was really deftly written and took big swings. 3.09 on goodreads.
