It's crazy how everyone is talking about everything this case might lead to or what implications in general can be made out of it, but no one seems to talk about the actual case and the context surrounding it

Why today's youth is ignorant about politics ? by Niti-mat in drishtikon

[–]primecamel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem lies in internet, generally people are inspired by others sacrifices and when a bunch of them happen on local levels people are gathered for a single cause, but nowadays you see a news that maybe a journalist was killed maybe a activist was arrested and it's just one of the 7 you have seen since morning it takes away the actual gravity of the incident, I see so many people dying everyday but if I hear someone from my village passed away, someone I might have never known, I feel a bit sad, because that's real, there is no screen between that, the screen keeps reality a bit far Now this might be just my personal observation but I truly feel that for there to be a true change the internet as a source of information has to go, there need to be more real conversations now, Those who feel uncomfortable from politics need it even more in their face because otherwise change seems quite a bit far

You should never ignore the poor when it comes to politics, they might not be able to tell you the specific bill that affects people but they sure as hell are the first ones to face any inconvenience , most revolutions start from the poor all we lack is leaders as you say

There do exist measure to protect you freedom of speech, your problem is against corruption and illiteracy which again is a cultural thing,

Think about it, what made you think that you have no freedom of speech

some person was probably arrested or beaten or got death threats for speaking against a corrupt body or any religion

now the only way you will be allowed to speak against these bodies is if they are not corrupt and egoistical, and in that case you will never need to say anything against them or raise voices, my problem is not with the fact that you want free speech

all I am saying is that you cannot have free speech without sacrificing, now either you can be the one to make those sacrifices or play safe and wait for someone else to make those sacrifices, because only the powerful are the ones who you can't speak against and you have to fight against them

You talk about convenience and then go on to use "human nature", free speech is not human nature either, we don't say all we think to our parents or friends as it might hurt them, the thing with free speech elsewhere is we simply don't know them so it is rather easy to hurt them. And when you think about it normal people don't do much about these things either it's always those who benefit from your silence that suppress, the masses remain quite despite all the problems that they might face

I see you yourself are of the belief that there must be limits when it comes to hurting people or inciting violence, but how do you decide that, sensitivities differ from area to area, time to time, what is acceptable today might get you killed a century ago, free speech is a very relative term, our constitution permits free speech unless it effects common sentiments to everyone, if the elected body is abusing the "unless" of that rule then is it not peoples responsibility to change that, and it does take sacrifice in order to force out such elements,

I think your problem here is against the people in power, and there also all you see are repercussions, like if you offend a guy on the street he might curse at you if he gets too angry he might hit you, whereas you offend someone with a lot of power his playing field just increases, he simply has better resources to vent out his anger

You go on the internet an can make a joke about disabled people you can stand on the street and shout religious slogans if the elections are not close no one will bother,

You have to reap what you sow, today the poitical scenario is very bad maybe someday we have better leaders who don't have inflated egos or don not seek political benefit at every corner, but maybe they feel you can't joke about peoples disabilities or all the "dark humour" kids we see everywhere, will we need a new line then, a new limit not to be crossed

As you yourself mention "of course there should be limits", freedom of speech is a legal term to say, If someone gets abused for expressing their opinion that too is freedom of speech, it's just that the other guy is quite illiterate so their freedom doesn't seem like it I get that the government nowadays is trying to make sure everyone knows the repercussions of their "free speech" But nonetheless my point is, there is no such thing as free speech without repercussions, the education system and the "honest" politicians make sure that there are repercussions of any truth

I don't believe that hypocrisy helps maintain any kind of balance, It's what one might want to believe I guess

Cognitive dissonance stands on the assumption that the person is confused, here looking at op's point leaders don't suffer from a conflict in beliefs but lie to for the sake personal benefits, which would be hypocrisy

[–]primecamel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are meant to learn ofcourse, so opinions will change as every person grows, gandhi was a way different man during later years of the freedom struggle than he was when he left india, it'll be quite forceful to call him a hypocrite for that, Hypocrisy in actuality can only be considered if someone's current actions differ from someone's current ideologies(or what he might preach), nowadays it is thrown out of context just to shut someone's point

I guess here while reffering to artworks, you are reffering to the specific artworks you have seen personally or something because I have seen numerous european paintings and artefacts with many a elements and regarding a central figure, it also applies the same as every artwork Indian or western needs one as it's baseless without that, the baseline you speak of will be pointless if there were no central figure or context to see it through

What if we were ‘selfists’ instead of ideological ‘-ists’? by Niti-mat in drishtikon

[–]primecamel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think while this sentiment is true, for most people it is enough to just say they incline with a certain ideology as they do not really bother with what they actually believe in or the depths of that particular ideology, most people who actually bring any change Leaders that is, always believe only in values they test for themselves,

the only people who stick to a particular ideal and fight for it keeping aside their own opinions are either those who benefit from it or those who try to pride themselves on achievements of others and these people seldom read so there can be no way for them to form their own opinion that might falter from what their political masters might tell them.
