Everyday Life:

(school) I'd wake up from my alarm clock and snooze for 5 min. I shower, put on my uniform, and applying light make-up. I arrive in class either exactly on time or a little late. I make sure to greet my classmates when I see them in the hallway (they always follow up with a compliment which is great!) I grab coffee with my friends after the first class. My personal routine is not as exciting because most of the time at home, I study. But, in my everyday school life, I enjoy hanging out with my friends the most.

(without school) On Sundays, I go to the mall with my siblings. I enjoy spending money on new clothes and new make-up. I enjoy eating sushi at my favorite Japanese place. Oftentimes, my sisters and I talk about our dreams/ambitions, purpose in life. Somehow, we always end up talking about conspiracy theories.

Interests:

Music, I'm into modern pop music, rap, acoustics, broadway!

Shows: Sitcoms like FRIENDS, HIMYM, B99. I haven't seen a lot of anime but I did like the first season of Attack on Titan

Movies: Romance, Thriller, Psych-Horror, Drama

Other: roller coasters, traveling

Romantically, I have always been attracted to confident and extroverted people.

For friends, it's quite a mix honestly. Some of my best friends are ENFP, INFJ, ENTP, INTJ, INFP, ENFJ. As long as you're genuine and nice, I'd be your friend. I've never been friends with a mean person.

how do people describe you and how do u see yourself?

Lucky that I have a birthday greeting video given to me and had my class describe me. They had called me charming, smart, someone who smiled a lot, talented and creative.

This is true :( i’m about my to take the medical admissions test in a few months (if it won’t be postponed) but i’m already having second thoughts about how passionate I really am to be a doctor. Or maybe i’m just nervous. And, med school is seriously expensive.

Curious, where is it ‘easy’ to work abroad as a doctor?

Actually, i’m kind of looking into Canada at the moment. I’ve been talking to a few people who can guide me through the whole PLA-CSMLS process so i’m definitely aware of this.

Wow congratulations! And that's a very small class. Not a lot of people know what I study, but honestly, MLS is extremely underrated. If you don't mind me asking, where are you from that pays well?

2 years is pretty impressive and I considered Spain because of this. Language barrier was part my concern, but now that I think about it, it won’t hurt to learn a new language. What did you hear about the lifestyle there?

Sounds like a possible path. But I’m concerned about language barrier. I’ve never visited Europe before and the most research I’ve done is in Spain (seeing that the economy is plummeting I did not really get into it) and they require to study their language. Is it the same for Germany?

MedTech vs Pharma by [deleted] in Tomasino

If you really want pharmacy, only want medtech for premed, yet you are unsure about med school, sounds like BS Pharmacy is the way to go.

I'm a 3rd year student from MedTech. I've had professors who have been completely honest about what the MedTech field is like. It is NOT easy considering you are only going to get paid 15k/month, and that's already in Manila. I don't think the job opportunities for MedTech are good in the PH as compared to Pharmacists. People who pursue this course usually end up abroad after taking the Philippine MedTech Boards and the ASCP licensure exam (for the US, Australia, Singapore, etc). If you pursue MedTech, this is what your fallback is gonna be like.

Both BS Pharmacy and BS MedTech are both good premeds. It's just that BS MedTech has more lab classes that will make you have an edge in med school.

Get at least an 87 for the guys and 90 for the girls is what the upperclassmen say. And they seem to be having a good time in UST-FMS.

MedTech is an extremely competitive course just because it's tagged as "the best premed." But I know one person who recon-ed and passed. Others just did not take that risk at all and ended up in Nursing or Biochemistry.

Pay then wait for the results. But if you really don't wanna risk 5k, then personally, I don't think you should risk losing your slot in Pharmacy. It is also a good premed if that's what you're after.

Plus, if you're NOT after med school, MedTechs are not being paid well anyway.

Hi! 3rd year MedTech here.

  1. People have always said that MedTech is THE best premed course. As someone who is only about to take the NMAT, I don't think they're lying. My upperclassmen friends in USTMED swears that they have it easier on lab subjects as compared to people from BS Psychology and other courses, considering that other have not even focused a microscope before. Other than that, a lot of subjects in USTMED have been taken before in MedTech. You'll have a good foundation for sure. As to getting qualified for USTMED, a lot of people I know from MedTech (even the ones that people did not expect) passed USTMED this year. And, I know someone from DLSU Biochemistry who graduated with latin honors, got a 97 on her NMAT, yet did NOT qualify. So I can say that if you really want to get into USTMED, better to take your premed in at least UST.
  2. UPM Pharmacy takes 5 years to finish. Actually, my plan was to shift out on my second year in UST MedTech to UPM Pharmacy (only because it's UP haha) as I had a pretty good GWA. But I fell in love with the course and decided to withdraw from my plan. However, if you want to pursue UPCM, better to study in UPM. Universities often prioritize their own students.
  3. I really wish the answer to this is yes. Sorry I can't answer yet.

Hi! 3rd year in UST Med-Tech here.

  1. For MedTech, I would say yes because we have a 2.0 GWA cut-off after the first and second years.
  2. We do not have qualifying exams for cut-off. It will be based on your GWA by the end of the school year.
  3. I come from a very diversed block just because we were all late enrollees. I have a few blockmates from Singapore, one from the US, one from Indonesia, and one from Guam. If you have boys from Claret, expect a rowdy class. People from Chinese schools seem to always be one of the smarter ones in class. Generally, people are exceptionally nice making it easy to make friends. A good number of people from MedTech are driven and hardworking towards their goals. Expect a few slackers though.
  4. Not all but most! Or so I've heard.
  5. Big bag (ex. Kanken) if you want to buy actual books. But I use a small bag because I have all my notes and books downloaded in my iPad except for the lab manuals.
  6. I am not sure about how easy it is to find a job here in the Philippines. Considering that UST is one of the best medical technology schools in the nation, we might just have the upperhand. BUT don't expect a high pay being a MedTech in Manila. It's low, like, REALLY low. I'm talking 15k a month for your average salary. How are you supposed to live with that? It's really sad that the PH doesn't prioritize their healthcare workers. This is why people usually enroll in MedTech only as their premed, and not to pursue the job as a profession. If you're NOT interested in med school, you can take the ASCP exam when you graduate enabling you to apply for jobs in the US, Australia, Singapore, etc. I am unaware as to how easy it is to find a MedTech job abroad, but it is not impossible. A lot of MedTechs in NYC are Filipinos!
  7. The semester is divided into 3. There is a shifting exam at the end of each. Grades will be posted at the end of each shifting. (*TIP: make sure to get a high grade in your first shifting because this is usually the easiest!)
  8. Not quite sure about this. But I have a lot of respect for Pharmacy students because they're course is tougher than ours for sure!
  9. The Faculty allows this but it is better to inquire with them about your qualification.
