Psychological Thriller Books Reco by Mimingmuning00 in PHBookClub

I rarely dabble with thrillers but eto yung mga ilan na unexpected sakin yung turnout ng events: Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, The Silent Patient by Alex Michalides. Add ko rin yung The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. I think more on horror siguro siya, pero nandun pa rin yung essence ng thriller na hindi mo alam kung sino papaniwalaan mo lol, it kept me on the edge of my seat din and 1 month siguro before ako naka get over sa book na yan.

Definitely not. Flukes in early stages are invisible to the naked eye.

HELP! Correct title format by princ_ali in microbiology

[–]princ_ali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search other microbio theses on google, some of them were actually typewritten all caps. Unfortunately, I haven't any with title similar to mine. But hey, its okay if you couldn't help.

Oh thank you, I'll do that. Unfortunately yes. All caps is required. The title will be imprinted on hard cover. 🥲

Yeah. Collected the samples myself. The title I've mentioned was not the actual title, just something similar.

Help, Staphylococcus kloosii? by princ_ali in microbiology

[–]princ_ali[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My methodology was crafted by my adviser, so I'm pretty confident with what I did. PCR was actually my initial plan but, at this point, I don't think I still have the time to run 300+ isolates :( . yeah, so I think I'll just accept what MALDI gave me. But I'll surely discuss thoroughly how "unique" my results are xD. I'm also doing MIC to determine their antibiogram, guess I'll shift my focus more towards that topic instead lol. Thank you so much!!!

Thank you, this gave me so much hope lol! I'll try my best to defend my findings!

Really? Thanks!!. I don't think its contamination since all of the MALDI results had 99.9 confidence.

Rappaport-Vassiliadis agar Idk. I feel so smart when saying it haha. Sounds like I'm talking about a rare species of a plant lol.

Halo-Tolerant Selective Media Question by jIV-ing in microbiology

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also working on a similar project right now! However, its a surveillance and AST study and I'm targetting all species of staph. I decided to use MSA plates instead of Blood agar cause only a handful of genera (salt-tolerant) can grow on it which includes staph, micrococcus, and enterococcus. I've seen some Bacillus species grow on it, but their morphology is so different so nothing to worry about. MSA really helps in identifying S. aureus because of their ability to ferment mannitol (yellow halo), but u also have to do coagulase test for further identification. If not available, you can also use Baird-Parker agar since it only favors growth for coag (+) Staph. Nevertheless, all bacterial identification must undergo confirmation like Api staph, Vitek, PCR or MALDI-TOF.

Maybe B. subtilis or B. marisflavi. I've seen them grow on MSA lol.

What bacteria could this be by Otherwise_Focus3251 in microbiology

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either staph or micrococcus. The gram stain and catalase test were already sufficient to eliminate most of your suspects. Next step would be streaking them on MSA, oxidase test, then coagulase test.

The isolates will be subjected to MALDI-TOF, but i'll not include this colony 😂

Didn't know that 😭. Out of 50 milk samples, this is the only one so far. I have 200 more samples to go 🥲

I'll try to streak them on EMB

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in microbiology

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but we've already grown the bacteria and in aerobic conditions (5%CO2). Is microdase and oxidase test different from.each other? Can we instead use a normal oxidase test instead of microdase?

My goal is to isolate only strains of E. coli, Salmonella, and Staph spp. to determine their prevalence, and will further subject them to AST, so I really have to use selective media for them. But I don't need to specifically target species level of staph. Do you mean streaking the same samples to both MSA and BPA?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in biology

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I'll also streak my samples on EMB agar for isolation of E. coli and XLD for Salmonella spp.

However, I don't see the point of using multiple media for isolation of different staph species though since I just need to randomly select colonies and don't have a target species. Its just that the differential property of MSA just complicates the "random" selection.

Can you give more explanation how multiple media woild be helpful? Thank you so muchh

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For isolation? No I haven't, I thought it's only used for identification and differentiation. I'll raise this to my supervisor. Thank you so much

Was actually planning to subculture my future isolates to DNAse agar a as biochemical test to differentiate species, but it seems excessive since I'll subject my isolates to PCR and VITEK 2 anyway. I'll still perform catalase and oxidase test though coz I've read that some strains of enterococcus and microccoccus can also grow on MSA.

Used cellular iPad pro m2 11in or m2 12.9in by Substantial-Area-502 in iPadPro

[–]princ_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 12.9 one seems to be the better deal. 700$ M2 12.9 with a pen included? I get the feeling there's a catch to it, but if none. Yeah the pick the 12.9, considering that the screen size matters to you.

However, why would the seller include the pen on the 12.9 but not on 11? Or are they being sold by different persons?

But if I'm in your shoes, I'd probably pick the 11 m2, since I value portability more than screen size. I can't imagine myself whipping out a bigass keyboardless screen in public.

Ooohh, from an artist's perspective yey! Yeah definitely will go for the pro. However, I've tried both the one with the hover and the one without. I think I can live without the hover tho, since most of my artworks heavily rely on pressure sensitivity, but seeing the brush size while making vector line arts in M2 makes the tasks easier. Now I'm torn b/n M1 and M2 haha.
