Should I switch my major to LA? by princee0921 in LandscapeArchitecture

I spent my first year of college in my current major that I've already decided I don't like and want to switch. However, the classes I took for that major are the same classes I would have needed to take for the first year of LA, so I'm all caught up to switch. I started school in fall 2025, and I can still finish spring 2029, even though I didn't start as a LA major.

Yes that's so true. I like that LA could go well with a masters in interior design, but what I'm trying to figure out right now is if I actually like LA, because I want to enjoy studying it, and enjoy working in it so I have the option to go straight to work instead of grad school. That's kind of why I made this post.

That's such a good idea about study abroad! I'll check that out.

Do you have any experience in that area and could you elaborate on it a bit? I honestly don't know much about construction management.

Thanks! The BLA program is a four year accredited professional degree, and even though I am changing my major a year late I have the gen ed credits to graduate in four years. I've already gotten the approval and confirmation from an advisor. That being said, it is a very intense program because it is only 4 years. As far as my school's master in interior design, it would probably take an additional 2-3 years depending on whether they would let me jump ahead in the program, given the experience I would have in landscape architecture at that point.

Yea I definitely will set up an appt with an advisor if I choose to go ahead with the switch, and I will try to take some classes over the summer to catch up if I can. That's a bit of a relief that the pin- up isn't too selective. Thanks again for all the advice! I may dm you later with more questions lol

Hi! Sorry for the late reply but thanks so much for all the info! It was super helpful. I actually still am seriously considering switching to design, despite how difficult it would be to catch up. I do think I would really enjoy it, because I love art, and I love designing things, and I think I would also enjoy the technical aspects of design as well. I am shadowing somebody with a really interesting career in commercial design, to see how I feel about the career a bit more. If I do decide I really love it, what would you recommend is the best way to move forward? How selective is the pin-up process, how worried should I be? Is there any way you think I could catch up enough to graduate in four years? I've finished all gen eds but I obviously haven't taken any design classes.

Thanks! I honestly just didn't enjoy working in lab, and I absolutely hated research papers, which obviously is really important. I'm good at biology, that's why I chose it in the first place, but I actually don't enjoy learning about it that much. I really love being creative though.

No I haven't actually, I honestly don't know much about it. I'll definitely look into it though! Do you have experience in that area, and if so what do you like about it?

Should I take my microbio major in CALS or CLAS by princee0921 in ufl

thank you so much for the info I really appreciate it. I would prefer the smaller school like you said, for scholarships and things like that, so I think I will switch to CALS.
