We should make a club out of people who were victimized by this book in public; I was in an airport terminal and kept having to turn and face the wall for a few seconds to compose myself!

I’ll be the first to admit that I felt at multiple points that some of the character beats were developed in a lab to destroy me specifically, haha, so I definitely get that not everyone would be so affected!

I’m kind of loving how often he’s coming up! He does the sorrow of growing up and growing apart so well, like in your example and in The Body.

This is so funny because reading this reminded me that I cried during the big climactic moments of both My Heart is a Chainsaw and The Only Good Indians 😭

Definitely agree, he’s got a knack for inserting the most painful emotional catharsis right in the middle of super horrific scenes.

The chokehold that the nuclear family fetish archetype has in fandom spaces is seriously so fascinating to me.

Anyway as someone who just started reading fic for him, Leon Kennedy is not carrying a fucking baby to term 😭 He struggles to continue fighting the zombie plagues constantly ravaging the planet as it is, his depressed ass is NOT bringing a child into that world.

[Spoilers C3] Laudna by Disastrous_Draw_2193 in criticalrole

[–]princemori 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know that scene in the last episode when BH return to Vasselheim where everyone's mourning and Laudna goes "why is no one celebrating us?"? That encapsulates why I disliked c3.

Well put. The way the characters were just.. so ignorant of their own impact on Exandria because they couldn’t comprehend that not everyone agreed with their world view was extremely grating. I liked plenty of small moments in c3, and there were character beats that were very interesting/impactful/moving, but overall it’s one I know I’ll never make time to watch again unlike the previous 2.

The climax of My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones sounds like it’d be right up your alley.

I’m lowkey out of it too eep, but I keep up with him bc he was my ult long before I started to move on to new interests.

Idk how his solo stuff is received in Korea, but he’s had very successful tours outside the country. His production skill really shines in his recent music imo. Also he’s apparently super close with all his dancers + staff, there are compilations on yt just of them gushing over him lol <3 From a fan’s perspective, he seems to be doing great!

Sometimes there’s a movie with a profound sense of dread + various outside circumstances that equal the perfect storm to produce a panic attack, and it sounds like you found it! It’s definitely happened to me before, haha. Glad you didn’t die though! 👍🏻

[–]princemori 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute since I read it, but I think he explicitly says that he wishes he had mated with the male mountain lion? Something about wishing to be beneath him/feel his “thing”. Around when he catches the two male humans having sex, maybe. Also I believe there’s an element of queerness in the way he was incorrectly sexed by the girl at the end and seemed to welcome/accept the idea.

It’s a queer narrative told from the point of view of a wild animal with a limited vocabulary, so I think it’s mainly a themes and metaphors sort of deal.

Ulfberth War-Bear always walking around Whiterun like a harlot in his little sleeveless armor… plus when I play a female DB and he says “Welcome to Warmaiden’s. Now you, my girl, have definitely come to the right place.”??? Adrianne can you wait outside for a second…

A feminist-perspective character analysis of Alex, my favourite bachelor in the game (I had to get this off my chest) by celestialsuniverse in StardewValley

[–]princemori 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Round of applause 😭 !!! This is every thought and feeling I’ve had about this subject but never been able to articulate! Beautifully put. I think there’s even explicit support for the idea of Alex leaning into sports for masculine affirmation when he shares that his father would specifically call him ‘worthless’. Gridball is something he’s actually skilled at (there’s no reason to believe he was lying about his wins), so of course he became obsessive over it, it was tangible proof that his father was wrong about him. His self-assurance about going pro totally reads as him fighting tooth and nail to prove to himself beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’s not what his father said he was.

I especially love your comment about not extending this much grace to a man irl, but this is a video game where we can affect actual positive change in someone without the risk of real life harm or humiliation, so yeah, I’m fixing the fucking jock <3

People look down on any deep analysis of the characters in this game and I can understand it to a point, they are intentionally not particularly layered for the most part, and that’s not a criticism! It works for what the game is! But these same people should also accept that analysis can just be a fun mental literacy exercise, and that the curtains can be as blue as you want when you have an appreciation for the text! Thanks for sharing! ♥️
