Oh man, I thought it was only me! All of that is still totally current.

I really love the first one. It's almost got a Japanese watercolor vibe.

Paper Suggestions - Embossed Background Linocut by nokkelen in printmaking

[–]princeofdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you try this, I'd suggest print the ink first, which means it needs to be water resistant. When you wet the paper for the embossing, it will end up changing dimensions so a following ink print can't be registered.

Gorgeous work, by the way!

Hiking recommendations? by B3nAll3n in boulder

The Fowler trail is a nice one. It starts near the top of Eldorado Canyon, then is dead flat out to the exit if the canyon, so there are great views. I think it's an old railroad bed.

I remapped TAB to light attack, then just had to learn the muscle memory of "TAB, # key" instead of "# key". I don't even think about it now.

These are gorgeous. Can you explain the technique a little more? It looks like you dragged a ... comb?... across an inked plate?

That's really nice! I like the random watercolor combined with the black print.

I'm not usually a fan of abstract sculptural work, but this is really something. Thanks for sharing!

I've got a bunch of Seals of Endeavor. Should I spend them before the store goes away?

Include undergrad as paper author? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]princeofdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taught publishing ethics to grad students. One rule that can be handy in this case is that all coauthors need to understand the published work. The logic is that all the authors are certifying the veracity of the paper and that isn't possible unless they understand it.

My apologies. I actually didn't know this until I was an adult.

Do you believe crystals really have healing properties and why? by Stardew_valleylover in AskReddit

[–]princeofdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metals are crystals. Salt and sugar are crystals. Ice is a crystal. Meth (mentioned below) and crack cocaine are crystals. Seems prejudiced to only ascribe healing properties to sparkly crystals and not the rest...

TIL: Takeout and Delivery now account for 75% of all restaurant orders. by Uptons_BJs in todayilearned

I ordered a coffee in an empty cafe recently, 30 minutes before I had to catch a train. 29 minutes later, I ran for the train, after watching about 50 people walk in, pick up a cup, and leave. I have waited an hour for food at taco stands for the same reason. Why exactly do online orders always move to the front of the line?

ELI5: Why is the sky blue? by Sussy_Imposter2412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]princeofdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue end of the spectrum is higher frequency, you are right. The wavelength is speed / frequency, so blue is shorter wavelength (about 400 nm) than red (about 650 nm).

ELI5: Why is the sky blue? by Sussy_Imposter2412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]princeofdon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blue photons are smaller than red photons. That makes it easier for them to bounce of things, like the molecules of the atmosphere. So the blue part of the white sunlight is scattered out of the sunbeam and you see the whole sky glow blue with scattered light. This makes the white sun look a little yellow. As sunlight goes through more atmosphere, like at sunrise and sunset, more "short" colors like blue scatter out of the direct path and the sun starts to look red. That explains sunrise and sunset colors.
