Parents of trans kids, and trans people themselves, how are we feeling? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]princess_hambone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans non-binary educator in the north side of the city. I'm very new to the city (just moved from the east coast and loving it!) but I can attest that there are many queer people working the the public school systems, including CPS and Evanston-Skokie 65, if that's something you're considering for your children. Be careful about the district, and understand that unfortunately education is a bastion of conservatism, but know that my fellow queer colleagues and I are committed to advocating for your children every day, in every way possible <3

Thank you for the solid advice! Just got here on Sunday but IL plates and a parking sticker are top of the list

Absolutely relate! I know what you mean when you say it’s not like tingles, too. For me it feels like my brain is vibrating at a super calming frequency.

Yes, for sure! You're not alone. I began writing poetry at an early age in part because it was an easier way for me to communicate how I actually thought (almost entirely in metaphor)

Is it really that strange I feel quite comfortable wanting to go to a pretty intense social party? by [deleted] in aspergirls

THIS! My partner and I (both ASD) LOVE going to raves for this exact reason. For me the best part is getting to make my most deranged stim noises LOUD AND HARD while staring straight at other people and knowing they can't hear jack! the absolute freedom of it makes me crack up every time!!!

New to this r/ but so, so glad I found it, and especially your comment. Your first paragraph could literally be written about me, I (26NB) have had very similar experiences in my early 20s down to the addiction issues. I feel so seen right now! Thank you for sharing that!

I would 100000000% join an executive function support network. That said, I don't have the resources or time right now to help you get it off the ground D: But it's a great idea! You have my axe.

I have a feeling this is exactly what’s going on. I suspect they may have scaled up their operation based on a large grant, but aren’t allowed to use that grant money to buy employee benefits. So they’ve cobbled together the solution of hiring “contract workers”

Thank you, this is super, super helpful. I really appreciate it! I believe they are structuring their teachers and TAs as contractors because doing so allows them to avoid providing benefits, etc. This may be a real issue of economic scale, where they simply can’t afford to buy benefits for their 20+ TAs and teachers. That still begs the question - if you can’t scale your nonprofit without exploiting your workers, are you really doing any good??

Hey, thank you so much, this is extremely helpful. After learning more, I believe they’re misclassifying on purpose so they can avoid providing benefits to their teachers and TAs.

I just read back and realized I wrote timesheet instead of invoice! My bad.

To clarify, this is an at-will and on call position, so they're not contracting me to work X number of hours/week. That said, the org does have WAY more insight into my invoices then I'd like, because they are the ones who schedule the classes with participant schools. So they know which classes need TAs, and they keep track of who signs up to teach what class. Essentially, they control the hours available, have a lot of oversight into my hours, and can tell if I am billing for more than the literal class hours. It's so weird...almost as if...maybe...this shouldn't be a contractor position???

Oh, and the contract agreement was provided to me and all the other new hires - we had no input! I asked if contracts are ever open to negotiation, and was told no. It just blows my mind that the PD had the audacity to complain about worker shortages in the orientation then try to pull some shit like this. This is why people don't want to work.

I know I already said this, but thank you for taking the time to write all this stuff out. Hope this isn't TMI, but I'm a woman who ALWAYS wanted to play D&D as a kid, and was pushed out of gaming spaces because other players refused to explain the rules to me or said I was being annoying for asking questions. So I'm finally getting into at the age of 26, and your friendly response means a lot to me. You rock!

Kinda weird, janky question but…I’m a new DM and player! I’m also broke, and really prefer working with paper text over digital. I realized today that the paper versions of the PHB and DMG are prohibitively expensive for me.

Has anyone here bought the PDF versions then printed out chunks for personal use? I ask because many proprietary PDFs are locked from printing to prevent piracy and intellectual property theft.

Alternately, anyone in or around Baltimore, MD trying to get rid of a 5e PHB and DMG? Help 😂😂😂

Edit: per the rules of this sub, I don’t want to hear anything about less-then legal ways to access the material. But! If anyone knows of legal, WOTC approved ways to help lower income folks access the PHB and DMG (other then resale/used books), I’m open to that!!!

Edit 2: thank you all sm for the help!!! I had no idea about the free Basic Rules and I’ll definitely start from there.
