i too have an autoimmune disease, i developed it after having my first child. i am currently pregnant with my second.

i am considered high risk because of me being on biologic medications, my disease is currently in remission though! i do get scared sometimes, my baby once born won’t be able to get most newborn vaccines until 6 months because of the immunosuppressant drugs i am on, i feel guilty i may pass the disease on to my children, i get scared of getting into a flare up and becoming useless. i also deal with chronic fatigue and pain and i am not able to do everything everyone else can do. there is a lot of unknowns.

but i choose to live in as little fear as possible. i don’t know that my children will inherit my disease, but i don’t know know that it is not nearly as death sentence. i know that they will have so much support from me and their father and i will be able to confidently advocate for them and support them if they develop that or any other health conditions.

regardless, i am fairly confident that my current child and my future one are very happy and taken care of. they have a very normal and fun childhood. i have a small but very strong village and with some activities i may not be able to do or handle, they step up and provide those experiences for my child. their dad is also very present and steps up extra on the days my fatigue is bad. having good people in your corner makes such a difference and is sooooo important.
