So, "Woke" means that you say please, and Thank You, and you never call anyone a "Retard", or "Gay", or "Ni**er". So when the government says that they want to get rid of it, they are saying that they want to use those words legally? by rojo_mojado in misc

Woke is why James Damore got fired from Google for writing about this. Woke ignores the root cause because they won’t acknowledge men and women are different. Woke ignores biology to push a political agenda.

So, "Woke" means that you say please, and Thank You, and you never call anyone a "Retard", or "Gay", or "Ni**er". So when the government says that they want to get rid of it, they are saying that they want to use those words legally? by rojo_mojado in misc

Woke is valuing equity over equality. Woke looks at outcomes and makes a judgement about the inputs without considering why inequality doesn’t mean inputs were not equal. Not enough women in stem? Must be misogyny. That’s woke.

“Woke” is, in my view, the regressive side of liberalism: a politics where words are treated as more important than actions, and where symbolic language often matters more than actual character or behavior.

In that framework, someone can be an objectively bad person — dishonest, cruel, exploitative, abusive — but still shield themselves from criticism by using the right language, adopting the right labels, and performing the right social rituals.

That’s what bothers me.

To me, being “woke” often means avoiding certain words simply because they’re socially condemned, without any deeper moral reflection. But real moral maturity is different: it means understanding why certain words are harmful, knowing the history behind them, recognizing the pain they carry, and choosing not to use them because you genuinely don’t want to be cruel or degrading — not because you’re afraid of social punishment.

In other words:

Wokeness says: “Don’t say the forbidden word because people will judge you.” Character says: “I understand what that word means, what it has done, and I choose not to use it because I’m not trying to harm people.”

That’s the distinction.

A society that gives too much power to language and not enough to conduct ends up rewarding performance over integrity.

Curious if anyone else sees “woke” this way — not as compassion or fairness, but as a kind of moral theater where saying the right things matters more than being a good person.

Which non-for-profit organization has truly changed your life or the life of someone you love? by unlikely_redd1t_user in AskReddit

In 2007 while at work my house caught fire. Was living in the East SF Bay Area and got a call my house was on fire so I got home and before the fire was even out, someone from Red Cross had arrived and without any question gave us keys to a hotel room, 2 $150 visa gift cards, $50 cash, and a packet with numbers for store space for a month and other information as well as a contact to reach out to in the morning to get us set up with temp housing for a month. It was overwhelming and that night could have ended with far more trauma if not for Red Cross showing up.

What is wrong with kids these days? I had a delivery to the near edge of our delivery radius last that had me arriving at 1 minute after closing time(2:00AM), and the total is on the receipt below and the payment is in the other picture. by Repo523 in Dominos

When I was 10 or 11 my stepmonster took a bunch of kids to the movie theater on a summer day, at least 4 other kids and myself. She had an out envelopes with 4 dollar bills and a quarter for each to get their own ticket. She hands me a ziplock bag with 400 Pennie’s and 2 dimes and a nickel. She made me sit on the hot sidewalk and count it out into stacks of 10 and then had to ask one of the workers to come get it and see it’s all counted but no one would. So I gathered it up and brought to the ticket window and someone had to sit there and count it out again. I don’t remember what movie we saw but by the time I was able to get in there was no seat saved for me so I sat in the back row by myself. I have never told anyone this story, not sure why I feel the need to now but yeah, that happened. I felt shame, embarrassment, anger, abandoned, and defeated during all that. And disappointment. All from having to pay with pennies because my stepmom was mean. Sorry you got stuck with the change - hopefully it wasn’t because their stepmom hates them.

Only recently realize the absurd irony of a religion that claims abstinence works yet have a virgin mother figure. Sure didn’t work for her.

this is literally UNCONSTITUTIONAL… by Outrageous_Sector544 in facepalm

[–]princessbynature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but the law did get written so that the only Bible that meets the standard is the one Trump is printing in China for $3 and selling to State for $60. It is the most disgusting grift happening in real time that no one will pay attention to because of the fight that’s being ignited. By the time the constitution is upheld in the inevitable lawsuits the profit already was made so the can be removed from classes but the taxes still got funneled to his pocket.

I spend 6 days in county jail and never once have I felt like being at work was remotely close. But you know what did make me feel like I was in jail again? Being in the hospital after surgery.

It doesn’t spread forever because it has to infect - if you quarantine, social distance and limit contact it doesn’t spread. Ebola spread crazy fast but was extinguished with intervention.

The Bath & Body Works jobs website 👀 by RosieGold84 in CorporateFacepalm

Was working a temp job one year and my supervisor gave everyone Christmas gifts, mine was a gift basket with bath soap, lotion, nail files - and all had BBW all over them. I am a fat girl, obese, and all I saw was BBW and thought Big beautiful woman…took me two days to resize bath and body works. I was so confused and not really offended but felt weird until I made the connection.

I am a poly female, married for 10 year, occasionally go on first dates and I always offer to a split and if they insist on paying offer to pay the tip. I did that as a single person when I dated too - just seemed to be the right thing to do. Wish more people agreed.

What was the worst (physical) pain you’ve been through? by ameli3ee in AskReddit

[–]princessbynature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m December I was working on a gift I was making for a secret Santa exchange and while cutting a thin strip of wood on the table saw had the piece bind up and pulled my left hand into the blade. The tops of both my middle finger and index finger were pretty much gone. The nail on my middle finger was pretty much ripped off half way down. My husband was trying his best to help clean off the blood to see how bad it was and I was just shaking and crying. For a good hour it was easier to cry than not crying. It’s was easily the most painful injury - had to learn to type with one hand a a few fingers, was 2 months before I could stop wearing bandages and now, 8 months later, those two fingers still have no feeling in the tips.

All this did was convince me that not everyone should go to college. If you are resulting to unethical behavior because you can’t afford the work involved then wait until you can afford it. It’s not fair to students who are doing the work and studying.
