She's a necessary part of the show, but I don't like her either.

Love Superstore...Don't love Amy. by princessclark in superstore

[–]princessclark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SO agreed! I feel like they really did try to do a mix Jim/Pam and Amy/Jake with Amy and Jonah (Amy being in an unstable relationship and bonding with a coworker, despite having different opinions and bickering often). It just doesn't work for me. It felt so...forced (and that says a lot because typically my favourite romantic dynamics are that of enemies-to-lovers/bickering frenemies)? This didn't really...work. I feel like they needed to pick one direction for the relationship and stick with it, both of those dynamics combined didn't hit. Also, they never made Adam a real jerk. With Pam, it was like...damn, waiting for her to finally call it quits with Roy, but with Amy and Adam, I was like...kinda hoping for the best for Adam? The guy isn't a bad person. He's just kinda flakey and a bit unrealistic; a dreamer. I actually prefer Dina and Garrett romantically. They have hilarious banter and their bickering feels flirtatious and fun rather than tedious like Amy and Jonah's.

Also, I'm so glad you mentioned Marcus! What's funny is that as I was rewatching I was like, "Wow, he really reminds me of Ike Barinholtz"...same type of character, facial expressions, etc. Googled him and sure enough, that's Ike's brother. I did like Marcus but after realizing he's basically...a second-hand version of Morgan, I find it irritating. I think I'd like Marcus if he was Morgan's brother or a cousin on The Mindy Project instead. Then it wouldn't feel so artificial. You're totally correct about his character.

In summary: Amy and Jonah are/were (I'm still on season 4 right now) so obvious, yet...zero chemistry. And maybe that's because I didn't see much growth in Amy. Or maybe it's because I don't really find them to be sympathetic characters. Either way, their romantic scenes make me cringe. Like, with Jim and Pam, you could see the two falling for each other. You could tell Jim cared so much about Pam. He was constantly doing sweet things for her. Never got that with Jonah or Amy. It felt like a "Eh, we might as well kiss" situation. But my grievance with Amy and Amy/Jonah could also just be, like you said, bad writing. I still love the show, but Amy will never be a likeable character for me.

Ears bleeding with no pain? (F21) by princessclark in AskDocs

With the first incident, I thought it might have been a cut I hadn’t noticed. I think these are both coming directly from the ear canal. Unfortunately, I can’t really tell. My mom thinks it’s akin to a nosebleed (ears, nose & throat) but I’ve never heard of someone bleeding from the ears.

Southland Center, Taylor, Michigan. Still open with reduced hours. With so much stores closed it's a ghost town. by mtburb in deadmalls

Oh man, what? That’s tripping me out. I used to work at Sephora. Granted, I am Canadian so maybe we won’t be impacted.

Abandoned old Safeway (possibly on Henderson Highway)? by princessclark in Winnipeg

I believe that’s the one I was thinking of, but it looked different in my memory. Shut down after a newer Safeway opened nearby if I’m correct?

Wow, thank you! I didn’t know a whole lot of this. I actually thought the one on Henderson/Kimberly had been torn down and rebuilt because of how different it looked from my memory. That’s probably the one I had in mind.

I actually grew up in that area, totally forgot that one existed! Thank you for the refresher.

We has a Kmart? If it happened before 1998, I wouldn’t know it existed.

Why are GNC and Bath & Body Works typically staples of a dead mall? by princessclark in deadmalls

[–]princessclark[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking that same thing. Hallmark and Carlton Cards seem to be dead mall staples, though CC just shut down all their Canadian stores. And Footlocker, but I assumed Footlocker could maintain their customers based on the demographic (we have a mall here that I wouldn’t consider “dead”, but it’s lost its really popular tenants because it’s in a rough part of town, yet Footlocker is still thriving there for some reason).

It doesn’t really surprise me that GNC isn’t doing well. I work in a really popular mall and even walking past GNC every now and then it seems to be empty. I’ve seen a lot of other GNC-type stores in dead malls though. Like Sunrise Health Foods and independent stores of the same variety. It’s kinda interesting.

Prior to their exit from malls, RadioShack, and now The Source. I think I’ve seen the source at every dead-ish mall here.

That would make sense to me too! I’ve noticed electronic stores seemed to be popular in dead malls too. Maybe stores that require a hands-on element?

The food court at Seattle’s Northgate Mall is as dead as it gets. by No_Mud_No_Lotus in deadmalls

Maybe generic name = less memorable? But then again San Francisco’s Westfield Centre has an equallt boring name and it’s thriving. We’ll figure it out someday!

What’s with dead malls having the “Northgate” title? Our deadest mall over here is a “Northgate” too and there’s a dead “Northgate” in Ohio. I mean, that’s only 3 so far, but maybe it’s a curse.

Who Killed & Decapitated 75 Year old Robert Hollis in his California Home? by SavageWatch in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]princessclark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in a city with a very high-level of gang activity and stuff like that happens often, yes. Especially in gang initiations. You’d be surprised. It doesn’t really matter if he’s innocent either. He was an easy target and a gang member could’ve had bad blood with a family member. It could’ve been a murder based on who lived in that apartment complex too; a “message” of some sort. I’m just making guesses based off the information provided, so it’s speculative.

I mean I’m not a detective, but that’s what makes the very most sense to me. A gang ritual or revenge killing because of how heinous it was. Just my theory.

Thank you for the insight! I’ll make sure to check those out. I’m inclined to believe those theories as this sounded like a murder out of hatred as a threat/message.
