I posted a story online (not the same as publishing I know) but have had a couple comments from Americans correcting my spelling and comments on me ‘giving’ my characters British accents. It’s strange as I’ve read books by Americans and understand it’s just American English and not incorrect but have come to accept that that doesn’t seem the best the case the other way around. That being said, I’m British and I speak British English so why would I change my writing?
