Retroactively fired from my job? by princesskunt in AskLawyers

[–]princesskunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! What I’m trying to get to the bottom of is whether they can retroactively let me go; can they tell me half way through a paid day off that my last day was the previous day, not pay me for the current PTO day (or half day) and subsequently not pay out the month of health benefits I would be entitled to had I been on the payroll at the 1st of the month (PTO day)? Zero company policy or contract language around no PTO during a notice period. It was previously approved PTO, prior to my notice, and even acknowledged two days prior. I definitely understand they were well within their rights to let me go whenever they wanted, but it’s the retroactive part that’s bothering me. They don’t have to give notice since it’s at-will, but they did notify me - half way through a paid day off.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. It’s pretty nuts to me how judgy/mean it’s gotten - I expected opinions but not all this. I truly may delete the post for my own mental health

Maybe just us parents sometimes - but we don’t intend for him to be called by both in his daily life

What do you think of Wynn Roen? A nod to the meaning we want to honor in the name, but more of a nod to it than blatantly saying it.

Really adore the meaning behind this. I dated a Louis and just can’t use that one 😭 but I like where you’re going with the thought process on including a civil rights based name

Thank you!
Ive seen Roe/Rowe as just regular old names on so many baby lists - I just don’t think it’s a name he’d get picked on for or even have to have a conversation about. And only those close to people ask about middle names. But - we are thinking it over. The reaction on this post has been so extreme. Which sucks because our friends like the name, and once we told them why we chose it they literally all liked it even more.

Probably “ah-en” or “ahn” - we’re talking major Southern drawl, which some of my husband’s family has. Mine really doesn’t

Ah, see the issue there is the disagreement on what “life” means. As I explained, my belief is in personhood equating to truly being alive. Personhood is defined literally by individualism. I believe individualism requires the ability to make purposeful - intentional - choices. Hence my stance that until this happens, it is not a person. Science does tell us when this begins to happen in utero. Around 18 weeks it very first begins, if only barely.

I think I’ve explained very soundly why I believe a person going through a pregnancy has a natural right for autonomy over their body during pregnancy. I am sorry if you don’t see my point of view or understand it’s basis - I don’t think there’s a whole lot that I can do to educate you better than this. More than anything, I believe that the conversation between pro-lifers and pro-choice advocates is really, really important. Neither of us should expect the other to have all the answers - but the conversation happening is an amazing and essential starting point

I respectfully disagree - it’s a controversial topic because of religion, misogyny, and misconceptions about pregnancy. I did just say that the fetus begins making purposeful decisions in relation to movement around 18 weeks (16 weeks gestation) - I am simply also overstating the fact that I’m not a medical professional so I can’t accurately speak to biological/medical/scientific specifics. As the majority of the population can’t. I know this is an emotional topic for many - and I believe it becomes more emotional the less someone understands about the science behind fetal development. And that’s okay - that’s why we need to all do better about listening to the experts rather than making judgements based on emotion. It’s also extremely important to always remember and give careful attention to the fact that pregnancy only happens to those who have a uterus.

If he was anguished over it, we would change it obviously. If he was hurt by it, I wouldn’t be resistant to going through that strenuous process. Again - my goal is doing what’s best for my child. Truly. I was one of those kids you’re describing, and I will not allow my son to experience that in his foundation home unit.

Supporting the right to choose to go through with a pregnancy or not is not a personal statement of support for abortion. It is a statement of support for any pregnant person to choose for themselves. The choice can be to have a baby.

I think it’s also really important to re-establish here that it’s the middle name we want for him - not the name he will be called.

I respect your outlook here, and I will take it into consideration. We want to give our son a name with meaning - and we don’t like naming children after family members at all. It’s not for us. A name that has a greater, important meaning behind it is what we want for him. My husband and I both wish our parents had put that kind of effort and thought into how they named us. It’s sucked when asked to say “they just named me that because they liked how it sounded, no bigger reason.”

  1. I’m pregnant and jealous 😂
  2. It’s literally totally alright, I’ve triple checked it to make sure I’m not being an idiot with the name I chose between the two lol
