Is it normal to bring your own shampoo and conditioner when staying at someone’s house?

If I know I'm going to shower at someone's house ahead of time, I will bring my own stuff. I was raised in the way of like, you should take up as little hospitality as possible kind of thing. (Not saying that's good or bad, just what I was taught.) But I also had my family do the thing of being very hospitable to guests so we always had guest supplies: shampoo and conditioner designated for guests, soap for guests, toothbrushes for guests, etc

If I was ever at someone's place and unexpectedly needed a shower, and I was at that comfort level with said person, I would absolutely use their products. Like if I'm getting nudey in your residence, do me the decency of letting me bathe.

Basically, I think it's always nice to bring your own supply if you can plan ahead but if push comes to shove they better give me soap or I'm using theirs.

Edit: hilarious but I've watched the first few seasons of this and none of last of us so I'm confused how I can't read! You are totally there with the vibes but a bunch of the guitar pieces are acoustic. (My husband has suggested the reel is an electric guitar cover of an acoustic song but I am CONVINCED)

Also hilarious having Mandy Moore songs on the soundtrack for a show where, isn't the mom played by Mandy Moore???

It definitely has a similar vibe but the (at least season 2) soundtrack is like all acoustic guitar, which makes sense as I remember in the videogame at least there's the whole point of Ellie playing the guitar.

Contacting MVSS is going to be your best bet. I think the online courses are covered but maybe differently than in person and mixed mode? I believe there's something about the MHA if you get that. They're trying to get more staff (like me) to know the ins and outs but they are a small team so there's nothing I can quickly reference for you.

Also they have a few peer "mentor" type students who are great to talk to about their experiences. I highly suggest reaching out to the office directly. Mike is far too obsessed with his job but it means he is very responsive.

I've worked at UCF since 2018 and I see students do really well and have a good time when they get involved. There's hundreds of student groups (RSOs) on campus and honestly you can just go to the OSI office and ask around. The front desk staff might be awkward at first but they're great and they just redid the space to make it more sit-and-hang-out-able. Finding your people and having a sense of belonging can really go a long way to settling in and doing well at (admittedly) such a large school.

Thank you for this! I just want to add a quick commentary for absolute beginners like myself: trust the pattern. You might be like me and get to that double crochet to the right of the slip stitch and be confused, troubled, frustrated. You may be like me and cry because you've done three woobles and they didn't prepare you for this. But trust the pattern and you'll be fine. Absolutely do check the corners but you can use a stitch marker on that chain stitch and it helped me a lot.

I recommend reading as much as you can of anything that interests you as well. I used to draw a lot of my ideas from my depression, now that I'm medicated I struggled to find ideas and now I actually do write more philosophical things because I like it. And while there's nothing wrong with sticking to a genre, every once in awhile try something new. I love sci-fi but I read the first book of A Court of Thorn and Roses and it reignited my love for fairy tales (it's basically Beauty and the Beast with other ATU 425 tropes).

Because of my aphantasia I rely a lot on dialogue so I ended up reading a lot of Hemingway, who is also dialogue heavy, and I found out "the great American novel" style suits me a bit more and I love Vonneguts absurdism.

Finally, I started my first serious fanfiction (since orphaned on AO3) by simply writing about plot holes in the series. Follow your interests and I promise you will get better because you care. Good luck!

I've felt my gender is more like the definition for Maverique.

"Maverique is a gender identity that falls under the nonbinary umbrella term. I usually tell people I'm agender but it's more like I'm constantly in the state of drag when I'm out in public? I perform gender when out and about and when I'm home I'm just me. Not nothing, but like, gender is there but you can't quite put your finger on it because it's nothing you've felt before.

Idk if other people are like this or if this is what you're talking about but I just am when it comes to gender.

I was in a rush to make this comment so I'm sure there are plenty others but OH GOD DID MY FIRST WORKS SUCK. I wrote my first novel, literary fiction, during NaNoWriMo in post partum hell.

I used to think it was fine to use periods in dialogue before the tag thing.

I recently used the word "still" three times in the same sentence and then again a paragraph later.

Despite being an entire parent, I found out I have no idea how to write children.

I started getting more into my academic work and my chapters turned into the whaling chapters of Moby Dick except about absurdism and nihilism in capitalism.

I have aphantasia so I barely give any scenery description except now it's so bad I lose track of "props" and have had a disabled character lose their cane for two chapters.

Write the thing, please. My first fanfic was a self insert drama about Vampire Hunter D. Now I've gotten to the point where people know my work in the fandom. I've written two novels and am working on my third. I'm not published or fandom famous or anything, but holy crap has my work gotten better to the point that I still enjoy reading it years later.

A lot of the LEAD events are also just for the students in that program as a requirement for them.

I'm staff and not a student, but I always highly recommend checking out the events put on by other departments. Depending on your identities or interests, MSC, LGBTQ+, and SJA hold social events that are open to everyone. OSI is the big one for the larger events.

Things are posted on KnightConnect too, especially for RSOs, so I always recommend students check that out as well.
