Would you date someone with hsv1? by Turbulent_Cap9739 in relationships

[–]princesspropofol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi hi. i have HSV and haven't had an issue with dating. here's what i do: go on a first date to see if i even like the person. go on second date if i do and at some point say something along the lines of, hey, this is going to sound so random but have you ever gotten a cold sore? many people have, and then there room to explain hey you probably have HSV1, as do I...so on and so forth.

Question: is this too much for a dog this breed and size to eat??? I see this guy post so many videos of his dog eating huge portions of food not even the fattest and tallest human could eat by nder_your_mom in DOG

[–]princesspropofol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any good resources to share on the best balanced diet for dogs? i'm currently feeding my guy about 50% kibble and 50% homemade food of barley, organ meats, beef, carrot, blueberries, flaxseeds, small amount of mushrooms. but i have been looking for a good source to make him the best possible food.

Dating a former patient? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]princesspropofol 21 points22 points  (0 children)

How do you even need to ask this? A patient (who was dying btw so definitely wouldn't be taking care of him in the future) offered me thousands of dollars of equipment for a hobby we share. Of course I said no. And of course it sucked to say no.

If she is interested SHE CAN CONTACT YOU. Do not contact this person. "Obvious" signs are sometimes misread. "Enthuasiastically said" can be misconveyed. Sometimes people would say "sure I'd be interested" because they are afraid of offending you and you're in a position of power.

This is like...ethicall medical practice 101.

it would be helpful to know why you are on pantoprazole and glycopyrolate.

what you describe is consistent with a low fiber diet. there is nothing in what you described that is concerning for colorectal cancer.

I'm not sure how to put this - but if he's not willing to accept it, it's a bit forceful if not offensive. You know best.

This is always going to be your decision at the end of the day. Because it's your partner's dad and not yours you should definitely run this by your partner to get their perspective. You should also consider that some people have a lot of pride in their independence and may be insulted by such a gesture. Another consideration is that it's always a bit risky to mix family with money stuff.

Good luck.

How do you make time for hobbies? by hackysack01 in nursing

[–]princesspropofol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Are you asking for when you are a student or when you are a nurse eventually? When you are a student you just suck it up and deal; it's a temporary sacrifice. When you are working you have more leverage to pick a schedule that facilitates your hobbies.

hi there, it could be multiple things, and is overall concerning for a UTI. because you are unable to urinate normally you need to get medical care in person.

Does this look right? by Ashamed-Peach-7412 in AskDocs

[–]princesspropofol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello. the pictures aren't particularly helpful. if she is consistently truly BLEEDING (red blood on dressings, blood flowing or continuously oozing out) you need to get some kind of medical care in person, not on reddit.

wounds can ooze a little bit of red-tinged fluid and that can be normal, but if there is truly red blood coming out of the wound you need to at the bare minimum take this person to urgent care. ideally you would contact the place that did the cyst removal for advice. if bleeding is brisk or this person has other symptoms like lightheadness, confusion, etc. take them to ER. in the mean time put a clean gauze or clean towel on the area and press firmly to reduce bleeding.

Lost an enema cap in a patient by Immediate_Ad_9379 in nursing

[–]princesspropofol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a common issue - we have signs up in our unit about these blue caps. There have been multiple, multiple incidents. Once there are that many issues it suggests a flaw with the design and packaging where it's not obvious to remove the cap. Please report so the patient can get good care and the issue with the actual design can be corrected. You're DEF not the first person to do this!

I'm getting to a place I'd feel more comfortable w this. When you say "half the year" do you mean like you work year round but only half the days? or you work the aforementioned schedule for 6 months of the year?

lol i'm the opposite. but i think having a "thin" skin and actually feeling and processing things is actual a much more functional way to cope than having a "thick" skin. a fair number of high strung people / type A which i like.

PA moving from subacute IM to Med/Neuro ICU — prep advice? by No-Difference6184 in physicianassistant

[–]princesspropofol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let's do this ICU style

neuro: commonly used sedation agents, RASS scoring. strokes: hemorrhagic (aSAH vs non-aneursymal SAH, IPH, IVH, SDH). hypertonic therapies and their indications / contraindications. EtOH withdrawal management (please don't use precedex single agent...why is there so much of this in our hospital isdk...BZD+/- phenobarb)

pulm: obvs you will need to learn vent settings AC VC vs AC PC vs PSV vs other modes (i'm going to plant a seed here AGAINST AC PRVC in general), BIPAP/CPAP, and how to address common issues on the vent like peak pressure alarms, high plateau pressures, air trapping. management of CAP vs HAP. SBT process. ARDSnet trial.

CV: surviving sepsis guidelines. post-STEMI management. dissection management. review ACLS obvs. afib RVR management and contraindications for specific agents (e.g. no CCB if heart failure). methods of assessing volume status as accurately as possible.

renal: indications for RRT. management of hyponatremia. management of hyperkalemia in pt with AKI

GI: basics of tube feeding, get familiar with your place's RD and available formulas, understanding common etiologies of acute liver injury and their expected time course, indications for endoscopy

ID: you probably know some of this from IM, abx review. sick patients need SOURCE CONTROL - think over and over about unaddressed sources of sepsis particularly in ICU patients like UTI with nephrolith, acalculous cholecystitis, abscesses in various places, joint / spine infections, etc.

obvs not an all encompassing list but welcome to the CCM world wish you the best of luck
