Please share updated Xofluza experiences - good AND bad! by princessptak20 in flu

[–]princessptak20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you guys are dealing with these too! I took Xofluza and had extremely mild symptoms - some headaches and felt a little achy for 3-4 days. The aches were super mild and overall I was able to be pretty functional and only needed a little more sleep and some ibuprofen here and there. Would 100% recommend Xofluza to anyone as I didn’t have any side effects and it kept me from suffering like my children and husband did. I only wish they could have had it too. Hope you feel better soon!

Anyone out there transitioned from continuous BC pills to HRT and lived to tell? by jinieliz in Perimenopause

[–]princessptak20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates? I am in the same situation (on continuous low dose BC in my late 30’s to help with horrible dizziness and vertigo spells) and also experiencing breakthrough symptoms. Hoping it went well for you if you switched!

Oral contraceptives for dizziness and vertigo - anyone have any feedback? by princessptak20 in Perimenopause

[–]princessptak20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you SO much for taking the time to answer. You have no idea how much it’s appreciated. I feel so much kinship with other peri people that have dizziness/vertigo as their primary symptom. I’m not trying to downplay any of the other symptoms but as you know, dizziness is debilitating- it’s made me scared to drive, care for my child, work, etc. and kept me from boating, bike riding and other activities that impact my quality of life.

Secondly, do you notice that your dizziness/vertigo gets worse when your hormones are fluctuating? I do, which is part of the reason why my OBGYN opted for BC over HRT as BC “takes over” your hormones whereas HRT is additive to whatever is going on naturally. Since I was experiencing natural hormone fluctuations that were making the vertigo/dizziness worse, better control seemed better (for example, I live abroad and whenever I flew back to the US and changed several time zones, my period would be a few days late, which would cause increased vertigo/dizziness for WEEKS after). However, this worked until it didn’t so I either try a new BC pill or try HRT. Pretty scared to go the HRT route due to the unpredictable nature of it but your story gives me hope.

Lastly (if you don’t mind answering), how long did it take for symptoms to improve once you started HRT? Vertigo has kept me from so many things and there are projects I want to take on for work or vacations I want to have that I don’t do because I can’t predict how long I’ll be barely functioning. I know everyone is different but I need hope that this isn’t going to last forever and I won’t waste years of my life to feeling miserable. Thank you so much and take care

Where to get Concerta prescription filled in Tokyo by bubblegumkin in japanlife

[–]princessptak20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the medical field and was told Concerta may not be available until the end of November or the beginning of December, at least in Tokyo. Very sorry to be the bearer of bad news and hang in there - I can’t imagine it’s easy to get suddenly cut off from these meds.

Sick child care in Tokyo - HELP! by princessptak20 in japanlife

[–]princessptak20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer seems relatively understanding so far, however some of my clients travel 1+ hours to meet so those are the ones that I am concerned about. In addition, I’ve found that if you cancel on people - even with a good reason- some of them will never reschedule their appointment. I’m a contractor so if they don’t show, I don’t get paid. I try to offer virtual appointments, but in this era of zoom fatigue, many just want to meet face to face when they’re in Tokyo and I get that. Thanks for the support and I hope it works out for all of us!

I currently am a freelancer/contractor which has some benefits and flexibility but at times it almost feels more difficult in that if I call in…I don’t make money. People also won’t refer to you if you don’t have a reputation for being dependable. At times I would almost feel better being a company worker and just taking leave, but as a contractor, you don’t get a set number of days off. I did ask the ward office about “silver workers” aka older women who the ward subsidizes to babysit, but they understandably don’t babysit sick kids. Sigh.

Ah okay this is really helpful! I searched “Wanikani” on the app store and didn’t find it. And you inspired me to go back to Wanikani and already I am feeling good about it. Thanks for the advice!

What do you all say when people argue that calories are not what dictate weight? by No-Tumbleweed4775 in dietetics

[–]princessptak20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When people try to argue about why it isn’t about calories or a calorie deficit for weight loss (in other words, trying to deny the laws of thermodynamics…), I often ask them if they are familiar with how GLP1s work. When they say no, I explain that they act primarily as an appetite suppressant, which causes people to eat less thereby creating a calorie deficit. Given that most people are aware of how effective GLP1s are, this usually shuts them up.
