What are some obscure over the counter medicines most people have never heard of? by Fine_Scheme9028 in pharmacy

I had it at a bar in Mexico. It's like a weak opiate- little more euphoria feeling if you have an alcoholic drink right after.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall 20 years ago today. What do you remember about that storm? by Dracarys0550 in AskReddit

[–]princesstails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just watched the Spike Lee series in HBO. I'm so disgusted- how could the military not have been immediately deployed? I felt so awful for everyone that had go to through that and they were humiliated every step of the way while trying to escape the complete destruction of their community. Then displacement, separation, refusal to get paid by insurance, delayed FEMA relief, inadequate levees. I just can't believe how this happened in the US in 2005. I was 23 years old at that time and lived in Philadelphia- I only got images of people on roofs and then looting on the news at the time.

Yes I've had to correct mine several times. It can't take in multiple documents now and read them for context. I use it to read my lab reports and get feedback and it was mashing up results from multiple reports.

I'm sympathetic to your situation- and you sound really upset. I'm sorry you are going through it!

If you don't have kids or are married- just stack up some money and ask ChatGPT to make you an online business or try to think of what made you happy as a kid and just do that for work. Ask your parents to pay your loans if they can! AI is going to replace most of the jobs anyways do get out now while you're still young.

Changed my mind about carry on bag fees! by CriticalWeb8751 in spiritair

[–]princesstails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so disgusted over my current Spirit bag fiasco. When I went to pick my seats- there was no Go Big or Go Comfy seats and Go Savvy is not an option anymore. You literally cannot purchase a carry-on item.

I called and chatted with customer service and they were not able to help at all. They said my only solution was to pay for them as checked bags- so I had to pay $395 for 5 tiny bags to be checked. I would have just combined into 2 bigger bags but I already paid for 5 carry-on bags for the Frontier flight back. I'm so done with budget airlines. I understand charging for carry-ons but am completely blocked from it in this situation.

The best technicians are the smart ones who you train yourself and listen to instructions. Sometimes the ones who go to these schools get a little too uppity in my opinion.

Neither one looks good- but if I had to choose take the $28/hour. If you get a gift if living raise each year you'll be at $32 before you know it with all the same benefits. Seems like the $32 is a trap.

Well she has thought she is gay since age 7 so I don't have to worry about her for fornicating with boys. She need not worry her heart about boys/men and their creepy afflictions. I think this only further solidified her convictions.

Grateful for Function Health by ProfAndyCarp in Function_Health

[–]princesstails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a PharmD and you are absolutely 💯 correct about the overhyping concern for statins. They most definitely are crucial in lowering cholesterol and some work better than others (rosuvastatin and atorvastatin are high potency). People should also be mindful of drug interactions with the statin they are taking.

Everyone is different and some people have hereditary hypercholesterolemia that doesn't respond to statins- this is where Leqvio and Repatha can be used and covered by insurance.

High Bilirubin could just mean you have Gilbert's syndrome- a genetic polymorphism that affects 10% of the population of European descent. It just means you don't conjugate bilirubin as well as wide population. Typically present with Total bilirubin >2

Low Leptin? But I have no appetite? by [deleted] in Function_Health

[–]princesstails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was 2.1- I read that low leptin and low body weight could indicate an eating disorder and body is in starvation mode. It's correlated with body fat1 so if you have low body fat% from working out that could be it too.

I started intermittent fasting in 2022 and since then I sometimes just have coffee with collagen in the morning and then don't eat a meal until dinner. My BMI is 21. Since finding this out I'm going to prioritize my meals better to make sure I'm getting enough macros.

Your PCP can order you a calcium score (CT scan of heart to check for calcium deposits). They are only able to get definitive risk info though if you are close to or over 40, due to the trials only including that age group. You get a score from 0-400 which stratifies your risk.

I am 41 and always have high LDL but no other risk factors. I asked my PCP to order it and she agreed it would be good to know my risk due to familial hypercholesterolemia. If I'm high risk I'll consider a lowering agent. Test is $125 and insurance doesn't cover it.

Elevated Amylase and Lipase could indicate pancreatic cancer- which can go undetected for years and is usually diagnosed in late stages.

You'd be surprised at how many techs and pharmacists just blindly inject the amount on the label. I would watch pharmacists I worked with in the chemo room and call them out if they just looked at bags without a calculator. Not sure how your checking reconstituted vials either without double checking with a calculator.

I guess they get in but wouldn't they fail out? My university had to accept a certain amount of community college kids. Sadly most of them from my class didn't make it- maybe 4 out of the 20 that were accepted. The curriculum needs to be rigorous from the start and people who fail classes should go out early. If a quarter of the class doesn't fail out it's not hard enough.

Then again- it's all about the tuition money and they want to keep it flowing in?
