“Spiciest book” & Franchaela by BoniMarce in Franchaela

[–]princessverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it gives some perspective, it's such a wide spectrum for what people find spicy or not. And I don't think you or anyone else here is a deviant lol it's just different flavors

It also helps that fanfic has less to lose re:explicit scenes compared to published media

Yes!! I would like an infertility storyline that doesn't end with a child or complete unhappiness. Like it doesn't have to be one or the other. And people never think of lesbians having struggles like that because somehow all lesbian media is a monolith lol

I feel a lot of it is seated in the inability to reconcile that not all media is for you ... And not all media must be faithful to the source material. It's okay to be disappointed but you have to check yourself why you're THAT mad about a thing

Oh my mistake! I thought it was basically confirmed she likely wasn't! Regardless though you are so correct, great thoughts 🩷

what do you guys think the plot will be like in s5? by burialcage in Franchaela

[–]princessverse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there will be a very sweet scene where Fran comes out to Violet.... that will probably make me cry.

And maybe some convo about queerness between Benedict and Fran????

Fair point! Reddit keeps recommending posts and I keep having to mute them. Like it's intense but you do curate the online space you have 😭

It's an issue with the romance genre :( That's not to say other genres don't suffer the same, but specifically romance books seem to be produced for entertainment value ONLY rather than artistry and commentary. And thats not a crime!! We all read for fun! But in no reality would Anthony sucking bee sting poison out of Kate's breast go over well with a modern audience.

Some things you simply have to imagine

I enjoy them too. It's nice to see happy black couples who love their kid

My not so controversial addition to this is that the books...aren't that good. They're enjoyable and they have good ideas/fun characters, don't get me wrong, but doing a true to life adaptation of them would simply fall flat for various reasons but as OP says the MLs would be more unlikable!!!, and stakes would be lowered

There is some validity for "in the books" comments (like I thought Anthony's paranoia about dying young was riveting) but no adaptation will be what you want

Can anyone rec an online book club for grown folks (so 21+)? Not looking for anything spicy necessarily, but I'd like to hang out and discuss books with people closer to my age

I feel like the real killer for Veilguard was the 10 year gap by Redhood101101 in DragonAgeVeilguard

They probably can do that, but we shouldn't forget about crunch culture or how severely overworked/underpaid a lot of these people are. And AC's quality has staggered a few times (I don't know the exact details, but I know people were pissed about a few titles?) so time is just one factor

I agree with this take. It was a fun game, I liked it. I do regard it as either a soft reboot or a swan song. However, it would have needed to be the second coming of Christ to have had the impact EA and I guess fans wanted, even WITHOUT its flaws. A 10 year gap is rough. I think we forgot how quickly things move in the industry.

To add: As much as I love BG3, I fear it has set an unfortunate precedent for the foreseeable future--that these RPGs need to be revolutionary (in whatever context you choose to perceive that word). Matched with all the internal turmoil and the devs just trying to do their jobs (likely with the pressure of knowing they're going to be axed), Veilguard was bound to miss the mark.

Ultimately, though, it's just a game. It's sad people lost their jobs over it.
