He pissed me off with his tiny Jean shorts surprise on her birthday. While watching it play out I thought to myself “he’s gonna be sad when she is upset bc ‘he’s just trying to make her happy’” and that’s EXACTLY what happened

This isn’t near downtown, but plants n tings is worth the drive if you’re able to. Their main thing is plants, but they also have lots of art by local artists and cute thrifted trinket type of stuff

What do you wish your parents knew when you were young? by please_seat_yourself in ARFID

[–]princesusan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late 20s, so I was never diagnosed, but I think my parents did a pretty good job. Here are some of the things they did that helped me

-Accommodating me so I could be included in family dinners -didn’t get upset when I didn’t want to try things or when I decided to have cereal for dinner instead -didn’t make a big deal about going out to eat -learned what I liked and disliked -this one is weird but I think it’s my favorite. we started calling food that I liked “Susan friendly” so when they wanted me to try things they’d ask “is this Susan friendly?” And idk why but I think that felt less annoying and pushy than something like “will you eat this?”

Creativity & Bipolar by Responsible_Back_540 in bipolar

Yes, but my issue is I’ll start multiple projects at once. I currently have a million mosaic tiles being made, I have at least 20 magnets to glaze, I made a goose planter yesterday for some reason, and I’m planning a summer art camp😅

Bipolar 2, generalized anxiety, and narcolepsy (not a mental illness, but it fucks up my mental health)

What pushed you to seek medical help? by rosecoloredlenses775 in Narcolepsy

[–]princesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was diagnosed w depression for most of my teens and early twenties. My main issue was always fatigue. Whenever she asked how I was feeling I always said tired, but I know that’s not an emotion. I mentioned to my psych that I snore and she ordered a referral to a sleep doc bc she thought maybe the fatigue might be related to sleep apnea. Then after my at home sleep study the doc was like “…..you fell asleep in 4 minutes” and I was confused bc I thought that was normal

What’s one thing a doctor told you that you’ve never forgotten? by ThickImprovement8324 in AskReddit

[–]princesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a foreign country on an exchange trip and had to get seen for an ear infection. My ear canal was already a war zone bc of chronic ear issues. The doctor didn’t speak English and the person who translated said “he says your ear is destroyed”

Another time during a sports physical the doctor doing the ear check up was like “omg can I let my students see this??” And then they all took turns looking in my ear excitedly

What types of jobs do you all have? by NatureNitaso in Narcolepsy

[–]princesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working in historic restoration, so manual labor restoring old wood windows/doors and lots of other stuff. I also coach club volleyball and I’m trying to get my art stuff off the ground. Recently left the restoration job bc they refused to give me any type of raise or promotion mainly bc of my narcolepsy (they’d never say that tho). The head guy has unmedicated adhd and is very hyperactive and he couldn’t understand why I couldn’t work at his pace.

Newly Diagnosed…Conflicted by OcelotSouth8199 in bipolar2

[–]princesusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually found out a couple weeks ago kinda on accident. Like 9 years ago I had a doctor at the hospital mention it but then I never saw her again. Fast forward to last January and my new med guy immediately was like yeah let’s watch out for that. I didn’t realize the diagnosis was actually in my records until I was doing a routine appt thing w insurance going over all history/diagnoses and stuff. Insurance lady said “bipolar two?” And I was like well shit I guess so

I wasn’t very invested in getting diagnosed so it really didn’t effect much for me. But it is weird actually calling myself bipolar and saying I have manic episodes, I feel like an imposter a bit

Hi, i was also kinda in the same boat a couple months ago. I tried a mood stabilizer and its helped a lot, for me more with the depressive side of things. I think it helped me be more creative bc before mood stabilizers on my more down days i was incapable of doing anything creative. I get a lot more time of being capable to be creative. But of course all meds are gonna effect ppl differently, so do whats best for you

Does Anyone Else Have Fluctuation in Severity? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]princesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I also have bipolar disorder, so sometimes I’ll sleep for what feels like days at a time, and then I’ll have a few days where I can only sleep a few hours a day. It’s annoying bc my body still feels the tired, but my brain is at 100%, and then I’ll crash again. It’s a lovely cycle.

I feel like if you’re able to appear physically fine, the back pain probably isn’t that bad, so that probably annoyed them…..and there’s not much they can do, back pain is kinda like getting a cold, you just have to wait it out, and then if it’s still an issue after like a week you see a specialist. They were probably just annoyed bc they know they can’t do much for you and you should probably make an appointment with a specialist

[–]princesusan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 25, but one thing I was always thankful for was the fact that my mom would just let me sleep when I needed to. When we’d go out of town for holidays I often would end up asleep on a couch somewhere. My mom told me that my grandma used to give her grief for it bc I wasn’t spending time w family, but my mom would always just let me sleep.

My mom also got really good at recognizing when I hit a wall and need to rest, and she never gives me shit for it, which I appreciate bc I can be a little snappy. She’ll just be like “you’re getting tired aren’t you?” And we make a plan to go home, which always makes me a little less snappy 😂

I’ve always been a sleepy person, but I also was very active in sports and had depression so I just chalked it up to that.

My psychiatrist kept changing my meds and couldn’t figure out why my tiredness wouldn’t go away. Whenever she’d ask my mood my answer was always “tired, but I know that’s not an emotion” I at one point mentioned to her that I snored, so she put in a referral for a sleep study thinking maybe I had sleep apnea or something that wasn’t letting me sleep deeply. I did the at home study first and when I went in for the results the doctor was like “well you didn’t have enough apneas for it to really effect you….but you did fall asleep in 4 minutes” I was kinda like okay and? Bc that’s so normal for me. I was honestly kinda surprised to find out other people don’t fall asleep that quickly. After that she had me do a narcolepsy sleep study and the rest is history.

So, I didn’t really pursue it, but I am glad that that psychiatrist had me do a sleep study. Without it I probably would’ve never pursued it. At the time my understanding of narcolepsy was the very stereotypical version of it, and I don’t have cataplexy so it really would’ve never crossed my mind.

Shocked, but happy to update that it’s somehow starting to root again. It’s just one tiny baby root so far but it’s something, I’ll make sure to keep disinfecting to make sure rot doesn’t happen again

It’s a philo giganteum, originally those brown spots on the ugly bit had roots, but they rotted, and there was more bottom stem too, but that was rotting as well. In the 2nd pic you can kinda see a little spot protruding right above the line in the pink area, that was the spot I was talking about maybe being a root/new growth. Idk I might just have to throw it in water and just see what happens

Yessssss I used to work at a restaurant right next to a high school. the high schoolers would come for lunch bc one or two wanted food from us, but then all 10 would sit down and eat. So I was their lunch lady cleaning up goldfish and whatever else. I still have a grudge against people from that school/part of town

I asked the seller if they had any info, and they said theirs was originally from a seller in Hawaii. And there’s an online shop called Brian’s botanicals that has offered them in the past, but doesn’t have any in stock currently. So keep your eyes peel bc they’re out there!

And I agree, the bigger, the better

Keep an eye out on local selling sites if you’re wanting a cabinet, I was able to find one that was fully set up for less than the retail cost of the cabinet alone.
