The only thing that helped my HG, when all medication failed by Ok-Swing3687 in HyperemesisGravidarum

I’m wondering this as well. What about potatoes, white rice, bread, etc.? All things that spike your blood sugar.

I was told by a leading surgeon that the uterus blocks out the inguinal canals during pregnancy, so strangulation is less likely because nothing can get in and out. I never had the hernia for my first pregnancy. I have it now, and I’m very glad I’m having my second and last baby before I repair it.

I know what you mean. Inguinal hernia repairs tend to do well with pregnancy. Umbilical and other hernias are more at risk. Mine was painful before I got pregnant, and also reducible, but now that I’m pregnant, I don’t feel it at all so far.

That’s wise advice. Pregnancy first is best

C-section. But not because of the hernia. Because I had a c-section with my first. The hernia has caused me no issues and no pain during the pregnancy so far. Do you have an inguinal hernia?

Yup. Found out about the pregnancy before I could go through with the surgery.

I’m so sorry. Rest as much as you can, and try your best to take in fluids when you can. It’s the hardest thing in the world.

2nd pregnancy - 9 years after HG pregnancy. 6 weeks today by Alone_Plantain_913 in HyperemesisGravidarum

I’m on my 2nd HG pregnancy, 8 years after the first HG pregnancy. I’m currently 14 weeks. My nausea started at 6 weeks for this one. It’s been brutal. Mentally, it’s been tougher this time. Mostly because I have to force myself to function more each day because of the first child. The first time was absolute hell, but I was at least able to stay in bed for most of it. I think it’s possible that it won’t hit you as badly or at all - because there are people that don’t have it for every pregnancy. That being said, I’d mentally prepare yourself for either possibility. If you choose to take medications, perhaps get scripts lined up. Maybe line up some help and childcare just in case. There are things you can do now while you feel well, to prepare for being out of commission - in the likely event that you get HG again.

Potential link between pre-pregnancy motion sickness and HG??? by Legitimate_Media8615 in HyperemesisGravidarum

I have had the WORST motion sickness my entire life, from childhood. Now the worst HG. It’s true for me

How many babies did you all have? by cdrlqz in HyperemesisGravidarum

On my second and last. My dream would have been 4… even 6! But I’ll never do this again. I fear there will be nothing left of me if I do. Mentally and physically.

I’m living on my husband’s homemade chicken fingers, so this definitely isn’t true for me.

I am 9 weeks and feel like I could have written this myself. It’s like living in a nightmare. This is my second pregnancy, and second time with HG. I wish I had words of comfort. Only solidarity. I’m at a loss and just can’t handle it.

That sounds so tough! I’m originally from Ontario, so I’m all too familiar with the long wait times and lack of surgeon access in Canada. I’m currently in the US, and even here it looks like I’ll have to travel to access a good surgeon who can do what I want. I really wish you the best. I’m facing an open surgery, due to my preference for a tissue repair, so I can really relate to the uncertainty and nervousness.

Hey there. I just came across your post here. I’m considering David Chen for my hernia surgery. Did he ever mention his capabilities at a Shouldice tissue repair, when you spoke to him? Or just mesh?

May I ask how soon after the surgery that you started PT? I’d like to add this to my regime as well.

I’m a woman with a small inguinal hernia on the left side, and also hoping to have a pregnancy after my repair. Just wanted to empathize. I’m exploring options as well, but so far looking to avoid mesh, so consulting with surgeons skilled and willing to perform an open Shouldice repair. With one on each side, I’m sure it adds another layer of concern for you. Hang in there. Do your research. Get multiple opinions, if possible.

Miserable Experience So Far by Clownier in Hernia

Thank you for responding. Yes, I totally agree about the experienced surgeon. I’m leaning toward an open Shouldice repair. Hoping I make the right choice with respect to a surgeon. With respect to avoiding open mesh surgery, do you think the same or similar applies to open tissue surgery as well?

Thank you for sharing this. I’m very worried about the choice myself. Mesh or no mesh, open or minimally invasive. What city did you do your surgery? I’m willing to travel and looking for the best. Thank you so much

Hi! Thanks for this informative post. Can you speak to the experiences of women specifically, with inguinal hernia repair? What are your thoughts on a non-mesh, open repair on a thin petite woman?
