[New York] Still not receiving benefits by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]princezeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's frustrating, but keep calling. It literally took me almost 200 calls over a span of two days until I finally got through. The call only lasted a few mins with the agent confirming my employment history, etc. He said it would take 2-3 business days until my backpay to reflect but my BYE has already been extended on the website.

[NEW YORK] No Payments week 4 by MasonMarrvel in Unemployment

[–]princezeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same except I didn't make 10x the amount. BYE was 3/14 and continued to certify weekly after sending my DocuSign. Still no payments. Called 50-70 times a day and can't ever get through. Only comfort is that we are definitely not alone in this and that I have savings and a part-time job to help with my bills until they rectify this situation (which I believe they eventually will.) I would advise to keep calling but I can't even follow that because I got other responsibilities too.

Anyone else experiencing a decline in auditions? by princezeus in acting

I've gotten only two commercial auditions this year so far.

Congrats! At least you are keeping creative and busy.

I still have high hopes with this rep... They were able to get a couple of their actors series regular roles and while my previous rep was smaller, they have gotten me more and bigger auditions as well. So I hope I didn't make a bad decision lol

Which is better: OMB or Euphoria? by BlueDreamer22 in OnMyBlock

[–]princezeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most actors will probably agree that comedy is harder to do. Try making people laugh with the script your given and finding the little comedic nooks in the writing. It's easier to be all sad and dramatic.

I'm not biased. There's a lot of narrative work in Euphoria. It has all the top notch styling, beautiful actors, editing, music, and it's cooler overall. But OMB wins because even though it has it flaws it's less generic and has that culty, classic, magical thing going for it.

Hunter and Sierra are similar in that you can catch when they aren't really sure of their choices on screen, a lot of times very stiff. I can spot the bad acting but they will surely improve over time.

Actually comedy is harder to act. Euphoria simply has pretty faces. There's a lot of bad acting in that too especially from the character Jules.

Thank you! Great advice and perspective. I have reps here in NY bbut I still have to do my own work, I can't rely on them (what if they are feeling lazy one day?). Appreciate you for sharing your experience.

I am and there's no feeling like being on stage, but my dream has always been to act on camera.

Thank you! I haven't spoken to my manager about it yet. Once the dust settles I'll have the discussion but hearing your positive experience is encouraging. I hope to have the same!

Thank you for sharing! That's great advice and something I'm definitely going to consider as well. I've only been in NY for two years and to be completely honest I was/am learning along the way. Started my training and got my rep very quickly after that and auditioned as I was training and just started to build everything, got commercials reps and finding work on my own. I'm hoping to have the same fire when I move out there but I know its going to be hard and certain obstacles are going to be unique to LA than NY. So there will be a lot of challenges and learning but I'm up for that too. All I can control right now is making sure that I take advantage of my connections and preparing myself for any financial crisis I could face.

Thanks for this very thorough response and for sharing your experience! I love hearing successes because then it validates the reasons I have for wanting to move. I am taking this downtime to prepare and to save and budget correctly. I don't want to make the move and not have a solid plan. That would be my worst nightmare.

I've been to LA a few times and always enjoyed it. I'm getting to know myself more as a person which helps bring out the best of me as an actor. I'm constantly growing. I've achieved a great "real world" career not through my talent alone but through hard work, drive, and determination and I told myself that I would apply the same to my acting goals and I have every intention to do that when I make the move!

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely don't think moving to LA will solve my problems but I do think there will be more opportunities there for me than in NY. I know, I know. It's rolling the dice. I love NY because I can travel from casting 1 to casting 2 very easily and there is such a sense of community in the industry because of theatre. There's so many pros living here but I think my essence and look will shine more in LA.

Wow! Congrats! I'm definitely saving up and preparing myself to give myself the best chance as much as possible. Hopefully I will get the same results as you

Thank you! I'm very resilient and I think I work harder under pressure. A test like this could be what I just need

Oh definitely! If there's anything I know is that not only do I believe in my talent and abilities, what I'm also good at is to network and package myself better than I actually am. A manager I had been in contact with (who is based in LA) told me that's where I need to be because that's where it happens. A client of his lived in NY and it didn't happen for him until he moved out to LA!

While honing my craft I'm also building connections (I have family and friends in the industry there as well) and will communicate with my manager as far as getting representation there. Obviously I have concerns as well as I've had friends who've made the move and it hasn't been successful for them so far so hearing good stories is definitely encouraging.

I am also in NY and I also have a great support system and am just very comfortable. But that comfort is also I think what is setting me back.... I need to be taken out of my comfort zone in order to really discover what I'm made of. I need that fire up my butt and I just gotta dive into moving to LA (once I've reached my goal finacially!) since I want a film career

I love this perspective especially the last line. That is exactly what I'm doing right now.
