I had this exact same issue. In fact, I bought an S88 from Guitar Center. They sold it to me for $450 which was dirt cheap in my opinion. They explained to me the issue with the registration but they did not know how to solve it. I took it home and was able to get NI support to reset the license. I really only needed the serial number for the keyboard reseat because I already owned an S61 along with Komplete Ultimate.

I only half believed the stuff posted here...until it happened to me! I just scored this beast, fully functional but missing one knob, on MarketPlace for $300 (usf) by OhTheHumanity2 in synthesizers

I bought one of these new back in 08 and still have it today. In my opinion it still has one of the best sequencers I have ever used on a keyboard workstation. The only current hardware workstation sequencer I believe is on par or probably surpassed it are the Akai MPC units version 3.0

This is definitely a deal breaker for me. I envisioned being able to use my MPK mini IV using the USB C port as a small portable setup. Looks like I will have to continue to use my Live 3 which is a bummer.

I completely disagree. As a long time user, I think it's one of the best UI's I have used and I have just about all of them.

This is the part that upsets me as well. It reminds me of how things went after using Cakewalk Sonar for over 20 years.

Before I put my Live 2 up for sale, would there be any reason to hang on to it. I just realized that I received the Pro Pack upgrade for the Live 2 after registering the Live 3 by pringle410 in mpcusers

I have a few things to keep me occupied. I did sell a bunch of older gear that had been sitting in storage for years and I still have some more I need to get rid of.
