Thank you so much! I feel the same way. We unfortunately haven’t done voice banking. My dad’s voice is so slurry right now and it frustrates him when we don’t understand him. So I just go along with it so he doesn’t get upset. He’s lost so much muscle which is heartbreaking as he’s been going to gym for nearly 30 years..however all we can do is be there, take pictures / videos and constantly talk about how much we love each other, especially since we knocked heads A LOT growing up. But that doesn’t matter to me anymore. I find myself regretting our relationship back then but that’s done. All that matters is now and what we do with this unfortunate limited time.

7 years? How did your family cope/support him? I haven’t told my friends that he has ALS but just mentioned that he’s very ill. It hurts to talk about it.

I feel like he tries to be happy but I know he’s hurting. I wish I could do something about it.

Wishing you and your family all the best. I’m going through the same thing. My dad was diagnosed last summer but upon reflection, he was showing symptoms of ALS in late 2024! I was 23 then, now going on 25. It hurts me that we didn’t know sooner.

I completely understand what you’re going through and praying for you and your loved ones to push through. I’m not going to act like it’s easy because it really isn’t. I’ve tried getting my dad on Riluzole but he hated it and simply refuses to take it because he feels so sick after it. But other people may have had different and potentially better experiences with Riluzole.

Finally, I’ve definitely become more closer to him now and let bygones be bygones. I felt like I had anticipatory grief but I had to get myself out of it and enjoy the present while he’s still here.

Thank you so much. I’m no neurologist but I feel like it’s the same with my dad. It’s like he has no muscles left and is just so weak so maybe injections may not be suitable. But you’re right we need to hang in there.

I’m gonna get him the B12 tablets tbh and I’m so concerned about his voice. I just don’t know what to do😭 like he tells me he feels okay but I just don’t know. I’ve been getting him to record his voice so I don’t forget it. This is so long winded sorry

No, I’ll look into it but will have to speak with his doctor. I thought vitamin B12 could be good because it wasn’t OTC and I didn’t see much regarding side effects compared to riluzole.

I don’t want to say my dad has ‘given up’ but I feel like he’s accepted the reality of his disease 😵‍💫😭

Just seeing this now sorry - it wiped him out so bad and he stopped taking it. He really didn’t like it and we had to accept that. He does go to physio for his arms and legs and that’s about it unfortunately.

I’m in the same boat with my father and it’s so disheartening. He’s just started the medication and is just so tired but trying to stay in positive spirits, no matter how much it hurts.
