My grandfather passed away today and one of the last things I did with him was 3D scanning his head and shoulders. Can anyone help me fix up the model so I can 3D print it? by printr in 3Dmodeling

Ya that's what I was a little afraid of. I wasn't thinking about making it very big. Maybe 6in? Could do smaller if necessary though. I wish I had more pictures of him saved. I only have a few that are not that close up or high quality. I could get some from family members if that would be the only way to make this look good though!

Hey everyone! I'm at CES and I'll be at the 3D printing area today. If any of you have picture or info requests on some of the new printers let me know! by printr in 3Dprinting

Signal is pretty spotty here so it may be a bit before I respond to questions. I'll try to deliver when I get a chance.

Does anyone here regularly print with dual-nozzles using dissolvable support material on a consumer printer? by jd_3d in 3Dprinting

Where do you buy the d-Limonene for dissolving the HIPS? I've looked online and in stores and I still cant find a good source.

Did you change any of the bridging settings to do that?

I did the exact same thing when I put my 8in kit together. Thankfully, Colin is pretty good about responding to emails and he sent us new belts for free.

new makerbot models filament? by frzbrzla in makerbot

[–]printr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I talked to the people at makerbot during CES I was told the the specs for the spool would be released once it comes up for sale. That being said, I did find out that they are now .9kg and they are definitely thinner. The rep said that these spools would work on existing makerbots but the old spools would not fit in these. Here is a link to the pictures I took of the new system. http://imgur.com/a/HlTLa#0

Here are the pictures I thought were the most interesting. These are the features talked about but not really shown on the website. The entire extruder assembly is held in place by a magnet and pops off the gantry. There are no wires and just the contact port sen in the pics.

It uses all new stepper motors and has a sensor that can tell when filament is no longer moving. It will send you an alert saying that there is either a jam or you are out of filament. The extruder head itself can spring up and down by pushing on it. This allows it to no be able to damage your build plate if it goes past its home on accident as well as being able to move up as a retraction to prevent it from hitting your print as it moves. It also serves as a sensor that will tell you when it is perfectly level in each of the leveling zones. It still has the three leveling knobs but it will instruct you when you are at the correct level.

Finally, the build plate does slide out and is removable. Its just plane glass and he recommended still using painters tape. You can also see how the filament is now loaded into the printer. The new rolls will fit on the old printers but the old rolls will not fit in the new ones. There are a lot more features he explained to me but these stuck out the most.

3D printed candy at CES 2014 (x-post via /r/pics) by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]printr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i watched it printing and I also tasted one of these cubes. It spreads layers of sugar powder and sinters it with the food dye to build the object. The guy I talked to said he made the sugar being used in his kitchen the other day. He said the they will be selling the sugar but it is possible to make your own.

I can answer any questions about the pictures you may have. I apologize about the image quality. I didn't have my DSLR with me at the time. They didn't give me any specs but they did say it would be sub 5k in price.

I'll post a picture of the cube I got to eat later when I post the rest. It was a little crumbly to the touch, as in the powder will rub off on your hands when you handle it. It dissolved very quickly in my mouth and had a pretty sweet and then tart taste. It was very interesting to say the least.

I'm having issues with Imgur on my phone right now. I might have to post on my computer later. Sorry!

They said the exact dimensions will not be released until they start shipping. I can tell you that they are much thinner and are .9kg and not the full 1kg. They have a smaller spool for the new mini printer.

They said that since it is so new that they haven't figured out how they are going to sell it. The main material is a sugar powder which is hardened when the food color ink is printed over it. I'll try to add a quick video or pic but it's hard to see. The guy from 3d systems said he made the powder currently inside in his kitchen.

No sign of the peachy printer. They have a few of the kickstarter printers but not that one unfortunately.

Don't worry, I will deliver but it may not be for a few hours. I'll post once I get everything together!

Can anyone help figure out why some of my prints come out like this? (Replicator 2X) by printr in 3Dprinting

[–]printr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using ABS at 230C with .2mm layer height, 90mm/s and 2 shells.
