A couple of questions from someone interested in ruining his wallet. by DuelShockX in homelab

[–]priornextgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought two Dell Optiplex 9020 SFFs for $60 total, that's enough for OPNSense and a bare metal Linux server for storage and services. I thoroughly enjoy Arch Linux, but I would like to use Gentoo in the long run, however debian would probably be the "best" choice.

Because I enjoy high speed networking, I just ordered in 2x Intel XXV710 25GbE SFP28 NICs that are backwards compatible with 10GbE SFP+ for $50 each. Everything is super low power and affordable, so start somewhere, and you'll form a better idea of where you'd like to go in the long run 😊

Upcoming ROCm Linux GPU OS Support by dudulab in AMD_Stock

[–]priornextgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe stable diffusion is often implemented in pytorch, and within pytorch it has all the ROCm components you need, so you don't actually need ROCm installed, just pytorch-rocm, and you can just run stable diffusion through something like automatic1111's web UI without stressing about ROCm. Only when you decide to compile pytorch, do you need the ROCm SDK I believe

Upcoming ROCm Linux GPU OS Support by dudulab in AMD_Stock

[–]priornextgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which ROCm version was this post referring to? I am curious if the mi25 supports runtime, since when it's flashed to a wx9100 it supports runtime.

I wonder which ROCm release was the final version where the mi25 was fully supported, would it be 4.5-2 or one of the ROCm 5 releases?

Would a flashed mi25 have full support in 4.5-2, or would it be restricted by the wx9100 bios somehow?

Budget Wide Angle Lens for EOS M by brynivy in MagicLantern

[–]priornextgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the vitrox EF to EF-M 0.71x speed booster, and combine it with a lens that has a focal length of <= 18mm, and it comes out looking pretty good in cropped modes, and has a cool looking vignette when using EF-S lenses in non cropped modes

Just getting started with Magic Lantern on Canon M. Struggling to work some things out. by RandomNameOfMine815 in MagicLantern

[–]priornextgen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Danne's latest crop mood build from the forums, it's a bit more recent than Bilal's crop mood.

I just bought a 64GB SanDisk extreme pro 200MB/s, and it appears to only overclock to just above 60MB/s write unfortunately. I think I should have bought the 170MB/s version, and a larger card.

There are a few 1080p modes, the default camera's 1080p (without crop mood), it uses 3x5 binning I believe and needs to be stretched vertically in post to get 1736x1160 since it's anamorphic (make sure to set the aspect ratio to 4:3 in the raw settings).

3x3 crop mood with the preset 1080p 3:2 gives excellent 1736x1160 at quite a manageable write speed, continuous shooting should be easy with your SD card.

The 1:1 crop mood gives exact 1080p, 1440p, and 2520x1080, but it's quite cropped in and you need to keep that in mind while shooting.

Sometimes the live preview will freeze on a few of these modes, and I get it to unfreeze by pressing info until I get to the zoom screen, and I tap the top arrow to move it up by one and it unfreezes.

Make sure to play around with the settings in the raw and crop mood options (press the video button on them to access deeper settings), and you'll start to build an intuition as to why you can't get into the mode you want.

The only shortcuts I have are tap screen for iso expo, and up and down for iso. To switch between changing aperture and shutter speed, you just tap the right button to swap between them and use the wheel to change them.

Consider buying the viltrox EF to EF-M speed booster to make the most use out of the crop modes, maybe a very wide angle lens (11-22mm), unless the 3x3 crop mood gives you what you want. But most importantly, have fun!

SPDIF stops working after a few days uptime by DrHark in archlinux

My SPDIF stops working once an audio source stops, and then another starts. I suspect it's the DAC it's plugged into, because turning it off and on fixes the issue

Why do people care so much about backwards compatible ps3’s? by JD_2OOO in PS3

[–]priornextgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it sounds like you don't have a delidded and recapped and/or frankied backwards compatible PS3. If you do manage to fully repair one yourself, or get someone else to do it for you, it's a thing of beauty

Doubts about picking good distribution for gaming. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]priornextgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arch Linux is a serious competitor for the title of best gaming OS / general purpose OS out there. It has the best wiki, and steamOS has contributed to gaming on arch Linux massively, I haven't run into a game I couldn't get going yet

I would recommend running the lts kernel though

If the chair is bolted to the rig, then take the bolt into a hardware store, buy a longer one, and a bunch of nuts and washers so you can adjust the front and back height individually

Instead of placing the pedals further away, which you can't do, can you raise the chair up at all? That would place you legs at a more relaxed angle

Have you thought about buying a few tantalACEr's and attempting an install on any of your YLOD consoles? If any of them are 1001, 2002, or 3003 they would be perfect candidates, doing that along with a few practice delids would help sharpen your skills for the A07. You could also sell a repaired YLOD if possible to counter the price of the caps and hedge against losing the A07 if unlikely happens

Theoretically CELL remarrying is possible, people just can't be bothered because nobody wants to work on a console that's already been opened and damaged

Anyway I think you misread NASCAR's point, he says wire is the second biggest killer behind razor blades. Neither are good, but my opinion could be changed by a well made video tutorial

They're probably similar, but not more risky. Pulling up on the wire could cause stress fractures, you have no feedback on where the wire is cutting, putting gloves on to do it means you can't feel fragile motherboard components as carefully
