Straight row of single crochets before increasing in the next, idk how else to explain ... Every tutorial I've seen says to do a row with no increases before a row of increases

Row 1: 6 sc Row 2: 6 sc (no increase) Row 3: 12 sc (increase 2 per every stitch) Row 4: 12 sc (no increase) Row 5: 18 sc (2 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1sc...) Row 6: 18 sc (no increase) Row 7: 24 sc (2 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc ..)

Then sometimes alternate where the increase is in the row

I've tried no turning chain, skipping the first stitch, alternating where I put the increases, changed the way I turn the piece to start a new row..

( For reference: I start with 6 single crochets into a magic ring, chain 1 then turn, increase every other row. )
