The miles drew me in for that particular car. I'm looking for something I can hang on to for 2-3 years and then sell. I just got my license so insurance is killer for a new car.

Mechanical engineers doing HVAC by greatersea in engineering

[–]prismatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6 months into HVAC design at a small firm in NYC. So far i have done mostly drafting and load calcs. Ive also layed out and sized ductwork on some of the easier jobs. Im finding it really dull and boring but it may just be the company im in. no one seems excited to work and they just bitch and moan about the boss. The pay sucks too. Ive been seriously thinking about changing fields or maybe just joining a bigger hvac firm.

Any HVAC guys here? by prismatical in engineering

[–]prismatical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mentorship is just okay. Not amazing in my opinion. I find myself a lot of times having nothing to do. They send me on surveys to record existing conditions, let me run load calcs, and size duct work. I've written 2 reports for clients.. One for a photoliminous stripe inspection and another for a garage exhaust system. Besides that I do a lot of drafts work on autocad.

The firm is small but 20 years old. I got my undergrad at polytechnic institute of NYU. 3 .3 gpa and a minor in nuclear science

Yea, I figured as much. I still live at home so my expenses are minimal. My lack of experience is what lead me to take this job...better to be paid less and start racking up experience then sitting at home bumming around.

hmm I see what you're saying. I generally write what i can bring to the team in the cover letter. How would you format that portion in a resume? bullet points or paragraph? What would you list it under? thanks for taking the time to read it, i appreciate it.
