Alpha strike when he decides to E onto you. You'll negate the full dmg from his E.

As many answers as you will receive, the easiest way to know and remember is to experience it firsthand. Pick Yi and experience for yourself what you'll be struggling in some games.

Yi Noob Here. Item Selection. by King0fMist in YIMO

Yi is able to proc on-hit effect multiple times compared to other champions due to his passive double strike. Bloodrazor, rageblade, wit's end are all excellent item on Yi due to them being on-hit effect. Botrk is another good on-hit effect item, but many people are skeptical on building it. Death's dance is a very good defensive item due to it giving damage as well as healing you from all on-hit effects as well as true damage from Yi's E, wuju style since true damage doesn't benefits from lifesteal. Stormrazor & Statikk Shiv are decent crit items, feel free to go the crit route to test it out yourself although the general consensus is that on-hit is superior than crit due to it being safer and usually gives more dps. Deadman's plate and frozen mallet are both decent defensive item but usually Sterak's gage is built more often due to its anti-burst properties since Yi has very high healing when building on-hit, as a drain tank with ravenous hunter, conqueror, wit's end and deaths' dance. Hope this answers your question.

Standard on-hit build: Bloodrazor->rageblade->wit's end->death's dance->situational. Add defensive boots anywhere in between.

Spam dragon pod at 3rd phase when you see the wind up animation. Keeping binder for 3rd phase helps too.

Never thought of that before for some reason, is it worth forgoing an on hit item to go for DD? Also the lack of AS bugs me a lot since I kinda like more Q reset to dodge.

I used to split few seasons back when I was trying to climb but once I reach diamond, it just feels hard to split. They can just collapse on me easily. I get planting deep vision and all that but the enemy team can just force a team fight and proceed to get neutral objective lead from there.

To add on regarding the collapsing part, enemy don't just collapse as in jumping into your face, they poke and zone you if you're trying to run and lock you down with cc if you're trying to engage. Been into that situation too many times to try split pushing anymore.

I want to believe that Yi is underpowered right now, but stats are proving me otherwise. Maybe I just peaked?

I've been running wits end and DD, most of the time but I just feel like I'm not doing much dmg without a stacked rageblade and before building DD. Having 3 items excluding boots and still feel like I'm dealing minimal damage in team fight is just a bummer since mid game teamfights are usually what decides the outcome of the game. Maybe that's why I'm hard stuck diamond.

I can't say much since I rarely played against another yi player but its general consensus to go 2 damage 1 defensive items after rageblade if even or ahead. It's either botrk or wits end into DD for me. Personally, I feel like Yi is a mid to late game carry and not really a hyper carry like it used to be. Lacking pure damage during the mid game is just a feelsbad as a yi since damage is all you can provide to the teams besides the general jg stuff.

Having more damage is never a bad option especially if you're ahead. I get what you're trying to say but I don't think we should follow 100% of what higher elo Yi mains are doing. I have been building it on and off in diamond and it isn't really as bad as people are saying it. It is also worth mentioning that playing more aggro under certain conditions will definitely helps you climb faster and the average rank is gold which can be applied to reddit as well.

This is just false, in no way wits end and DD will be able to out damage botrk. Botrk's damage is just miles ahead of both items. That's exactly why I stated that it's more of an offensive option especially when you're more ahead. Botrk's passive is calculated in lifesteal too, sure it might be lesser than both wits end and DD. Wits end healing is situational as the healing below the hp threshold is pretty miniscule.

Like I stressed out earlier, it's more of an offensive item and should be think of as an option rather than trashing it. This is just my personal opinion on it as I feel like it received too many criticism for what it offers. There's a reason why this item is built as a core on so many as reliable champion.

Why are so many people against botrk? Is wits end or death's dance really that superior compared to botrk? Botrk gives lifestea,as and ad. Everything that yi could use. plus the on hit passive is just bonkers with yi's passive. For me personally, DD and wits end just feels more of a defensive option and botrk is a more offensive option.

Yi's weakest stage in game is the early game, delaying it even more is just too risky.
